VixenofVenus
Ok, I've been working on this issue for a while now, but this is my first post here about it.I've tried both the stable and beta 1.8 release of uTorrent and the program still crashes quite constantly. When I say constantly, I mean about 3-5 times per day. I reboot my system at least once a day, usually up to three times a day. I know this issue must be related to either my System or my ISP, although when I used to use Azureus, it never crashed, but it was a larger drain on my system. If I can't solve this issue soon, I'll probably end up switching back to Azureus because of this.I have a Pentium 4 1.69 GHz w/512MB of RAM running MS Windows XP SP3 v.3300. I have AVG installed (full system scan daily after reboot, then shut off - normally NOTHING found). I use PeerGuardian 2 and update the lists daily, and I also run CacheMan XP to help optimize my system resource management, but that's a recent addition which hasn't made much difference. My downloads are all stored on a USB 1 TB hard drive which has a much faster speed than my downloads and uploads combined, so I know it's not a problem of I/O overload, because the crashes don't seem to consist with when moving files, copying, etc ... Mostly, the crashes seem to happen when I leave the system alone ... and yet I have no power-management turned on in Windows or in BIOS ... The only other app running is PowerArchiver 2007 Starter, but I've tried closing this and the crashes still happen. On the other hand, my ISP is CableOne.net, and I use a LinkSys WCG200v2 Wireless Cable Gateway (I don't use the wireless though). I use port forwarding to port 8000 and it works. In fact, other than the crashing, I'm quite happy with uTorrent. But my ISP does tend to have a problem with connection resets and SOMETIMES these crashes seem to coincide with a connection reset, but not always. I'm not even sure what to call these "resets", but what happens is my connection drops off, then the router/gateway resets and my connection returns ... the whole thing from the connection drop-off to it coming back takes about 2 minutes is all, and most of the time, uTorrent just handles it as you might think it would ...Either way, I can't figure out how to solve this issue ... so here is what I'd like to know:1) Is there a way to get uTorrent to AUTOMATICALLY restart after a crash (instead of me having to click to send a dump and reset)?2) If you need more info to diagnose the problem, what do I need to provide, including how to provide it (a link to another thread or program should suffice as long as I can figure out how to do what you're asking)?3) What are the optimal or best settings for performance on a computer of my speed/net connection (I average about 500kb down / 100kb up)?
