completed column should sort in-progress adjacent to just-completed

Very modest request.

I'd like to see my in-progress torrents at the top of the list, followed by my completed torrents sorted by recent to old. But right now, "in-progress" means "null", which sorts immediately prior to the very old torrents.

... you cannot customize the status sorting. It's more-or-less alphabetical.

Well, I don't really think there should be an option--I just think my idea should simply be the way it works, since it seems to make more sense that torrents that haven't completed yet would appear next to torrents that just completed.

It's a function of listviews... I think? You can't change it haphazardly without writing your own parser.

Mmmm...this is an inflexible-Windows-API problem, eh? Is there some sort of post-alpha invisible character that could be used instead of null to denote in-progress torrents? Or I suppose the text "in progress" would work well too.

I'm talking about the column called "Completed On". If in-progress torrents had the text "in progress", then in-progress torrents would appear next to just-completed torrents, when sorting by that column as I do.

You can double sort... I still don't see how what you're asking for isn't implemented. If you want to sort by Status, click that column; THEN to do your completed on bit... hold SHIFT click Completed On.

See if that does what you want. If not, try explaining it differently as it's then obvious not enough information was given to tell whether uT already does it.
