Illuminatus Posted December 29, 2005 Report Posted December 29, 2005 OK I am a little confused cause I keep reading that we should always check whether we get Network OK or NAT Error before posting but I get neither of them... so I was wondering is this a problem? Here is a pic of my view, as you can see it doesn't say Network OK or anything: http://img.photobucket.com/albums/v723/shaaniqbal/myviewofutorrent.gif Oh and also I am assuming that I don't need to forward any ports beaucse of uPnP right? And also I went to control panel just looking around the computer for anything that might affect my utorrent speeds and I found this list of services in Internet Connection>Advanced Options: http://img.photobucket.com/albums/v723/shaaniqbal/connectionservices.gif , the next service down would have been utorrent which is already ticked (you cant see it because I couldn't fit it in), but are there any services do you think that if I tick will make a speed difference?Btw just like to add that I'm suspicous of Tiscali having a lot to do with my slow utorrent speeds, because general surfing speeds are generally optimal (2mb is my service, and I get about 1900mbs when I do speed tests). But on uTorrent with a healthy seedy download I get really slow speeds (it keeps jumping from 10-50. Well 50 isn't that bad I guess, but it rarely stays there for more than 20 seconds). And I'm talking about after I've kept a download on for quite a while (half hour). Does anyone else get these jumpy speeds? Anyone got any advice? ;(
DreadWingKnight Posted December 29, 2005 Report Posted December 29, 2005 Oh and also I am assuming that I don't need to forward any ports beaucse of uPnP right?Until it says "Network OK" or "UPnP (<port number>) OK" in the status bar, your client is NOT reachable.http://distribution.openoffice.org/p2p/index.html <-- do these torrents work?
Illuminatus Posted December 29, 2005 Author Report Posted December 29, 2005 Yup those torrents worked really fast at 200kbs-250kbs, thanks for the help I think it must be because of the torrents I download from even though they are quite healthy... Oh well I can live with these speeds but thanks again!
Ultima Posted December 29, 2005 Report Posted December 29, 2005 That doesn't mean you shouldn't/don't have to fix your port forwarding though =P
Illuminatus Posted December 29, 2005 Author Report Posted December 29, 2005 Huh? =0 but then what is uPnP for then? I thought it forwarded the ports for me? =(I know how to forward ports by the way but the thing is I err... well it's embarressing... I lost my router's password... =( Don't laugh! (I've tried the default user (blank) and pass (admin)). *CoughcoughdidllydoddledoesanyoneknowhowtohackaWAG54Glinksysroutercoughcough*
Firon Posted December 29, 2005 Report Posted December 29, 2005 UPnP is worthless. And uh, you can reset the router, they have reset buttons on them. Just press it for 10 seconds or so and it'll reset to the factory default settings.
1c3d0g Posted December 29, 2005 Report Posted December 29, 2005 Yeah, punching the hole manually is better than Unplug 'n Pray. Just forward a high-numbered port in your router and your done. http://www.portforward.com/
Illuminatus Posted December 29, 2005 Author Report Posted December 29, 2005 Thanks lotsBut if I reset the router then what if my other computer will be taken off the router network? I wouldn't know how to fix that. Does it just reset user and pass or everything? =(*Trying to find reset button*
Firon Posted December 29, 2005 Report Posted December 29, 2005 It's a physical reset button on it, it SHOULD have it. It would reset all the configuration though.
jigz Posted December 30, 2005 Report Posted December 30, 2005 help me i really want to use utorrent but am struggling with the set up as only getting 10Kb/s d/l speed I'm using peer-guardian2 as well for reasons u know! Ive tried port 1720 but no joy and have made sure my firewall is set to allow in and out going for utorrent on these ports any ideas????????
Illuminatus Posted December 30, 2005 Author Report Posted December 30, 2005 For a start you could start your own thread!!! =p Just kidding you can share myne =)Hmm maybe try using BitComet? They're both the same really except uTorrent has a really small footprint.Oki if I happen to know my 'network wep key' (no clue what that is) would that happen to allow me access somehow?
Firon Posted December 30, 2005 Report Posted December 30, 2005 WEP is the encryption key for your wireless connections. Has nothing to do with accessing the web interface on the router.
