Dimensions Posted June 16, 2008 Report Posted June 16, 2008 Hi, first I just want to say a thank you to the µTorrent crew for providing this quality free product. I was a Rapidshare boy, but there is a limit to ones patience on how many times you have to web-disconnect your dynamic router to get a new IP address (if your lucky) when downloading a 30-70 piece file.Anyway down to business. I've been using µTorrent for a while now but never had a green triangle showing port-forwarding, instead getting the yellow triangle. I tried manual port-forward as described, checked that my firewall in Kaspersky internet security and the windows fire wall settings but to no avail. Even changed to bitcomet for a bit because it was ticking me off.In the end I decided to thoroughly checkout all the settings in Kaspersky (and there are a lot) to nail the issue down. Was pretty sure it wasn't my router's firewall as I checked out the settings. Lo and behold tucked away under Kaspersky's "firewall settings", in "filtration rules", and shown by the "Zones" tab was a zone called internet with a box next to it (which was ticked) in a column called stealth mode. Unticking the box and applying the new setting turned the triangle green- almost instantly.Stealth mode is some sort of anti-hacker protection, and since I'm behind three firewalls I don't really need it.I routinely get a download speed of 30-590kB/s and was wondering if stealth mode was capping my speed. Not sure if it made a difference to me as I have such a wide speed range anyway, but I have recently been more at the 500 range- might be well seeded torrents though. So if anybody has Kaspersky or any other internet security suite that has some sort of anti-hacker or stealth mode setting try turning it off if you have this problem. Also I noticed if Kaspersky hasn't been updated it also gives a yellow triangle (even with stealth mode off), don't ask me why, I'm but a simple man. Updating automatically or manually turns it green again.Sorry for the long post, I felt quite verbose tonight. Hopefully this helps someone out there as I know how annoying speed problems can be.A quick question of my own: I've noticed just now that I only get 400-500 Kb/s if another peer has a similar speed. If he/she disconnects my speed drops to 40-60. Looking at it now and two people are connected at approx 300 and my download speed has set a new record: 680Kb/s, one disconnected and my speed dropped by 300. Anyone know what that is all about??Edit: (extra info)I've noticed that my download speed actually equals the sum download (not upload) speeds of all the other peers in the peers list. Am I missing something here? That doesn't make sense. Also there are a lot of peers (about 4/5ths) I'm connected to who are neither downloading or up loading anything? I know the upload and download speeds are estimates but I would have expect more to be active if on the list?
