nfurlong Posted June 22, 2008 Report Posted June 22, 2008 uTorrent spent the normal time downloading a 243MB torrent to 100%, all the files have solid blue lines, I've uploaded 1.90GB already (and continuing) for a > 8.0 ratio, but the containing directory is 0 bytes!!! I stopped, forced recheck and the GUI is happy as a clam, but I still have no files! Where are they and why does uTorrent think they exist? I searched all over the Forums and the FAQ and it appears I'm the first to experience this. Any help would be appreciated 'cuz I can't even start over as the torrent file thinks it's already done!
jewelisheaven Posted June 22, 2008 Report Posted June 22, 2008 Right click, open containing directory? Check opened directory versus General tab -> Save As
nfurlong Posted June 22, 2008 Author Report Posted June 22, 2008 A picture is worth 1000 words, so here are 3000 and some. Oh, and the fact that Beethoven is a subdir of Chopin is neither here nor there (hadn't fully grasped where uTorrent placed its output).Note that Win XP Explorer is saying the top-level directory is 0 bytes, where it should be 243MB. I can't actually click on the dirs below the track level. Very odd. The General tab:When I double-click on one of the sound files, it asks what app to use, then tells me that the file doesn't exist:
Switeck Posted June 22, 2008 Report Posted June 22, 2008 Looks to me like the path is too long.c:\something\something2\...something 50+\filenameneeds to be:c:\something\something2\filename
nfurlong Posted June 22, 2008 Author Report Posted June 22, 2008 OK, I renamed the top-level one to "Beethoven - Piano Ctos, major Sons" and the dir is now 14.2MB in size. One dir has 3 sound files:Beethoven - Piano Ctos, major Sons--> Beethoven Ludwig van (17 Dec 1770 - 26 Mar 1827)--> Piano Sonata in C Minor, op 13--> Wilhelm BackhausBut no other dir has > 50 chars. And I don't have any control over the dir naming anyway, it's in the torrent. How do I proceed?
nfurlong Posted June 22, 2008 Author Report Posted June 22, 2008 While showering and getting dressed, it occurred to me that Switek was trying to tell me that it's the entire path length that's important, not each dir's length, so I moved "... Ludwig ..." to the "Torrents" dir and now all is well. Thank you both! Jewel, you are the essense of brevity. :-) Not sure I would have known what to do with that last comment if I hadn't been thinking along those lines, but you've gotta love succinctness!
jewelisheaven Posted June 22, 2008 Report Posted June 22, 2008 Yeah sorry about that... I used the nomenclature of your last step, and I was trying to stump you So you're set? Make a note for future reference if you show the dialog... check out the filename lengths to see if it may cause a problem while downloading. In 1.8 there is a bit easier-time with setting individual path locations, but the Add dialog hasn't been overhauled yet... maybe in 1.9.
nfurlong Posted June 23, 2008 Author Report Posted June 23, 2008 Yeah, I'm set, thanks! At least for the dowloading part. The Rip'ing part is still kickin' my butt. I'm thinking of abandoning CDBurner. Which app(s) do you use?
