uTorrent disconnects me

Hello everyone,

I love uTorrent but recently i dont think it has been returning the love. It was working really well but recently it just disconnects my internet connection and any other computers connected to the router.

I read a few things and have lowered my net.max_halfopen to 8 and lowered my bt.connect_speed to 8. I updated to the 1.8 beta but still have the same problem.

My port is being forwarded correctly and usually it disconnects me, reconnects, gives me the green tick then i get disconnected again until i exit or stop utorrent and reconnect to the network.

I am on Vista SP1 with Kaspersky internet security (7.0.1.325), my router is the motorola sbg900, and i am using Bigpond(australian ISP)cable extreme(30Mbps/1000kbps)

and on the speed test i get:

Your line speed is 4.03 Mbps (4030 kbps).

Your download speed is 504 KB/s (0.49 MB/s).

Any help would be greatly appreciated.

Thanks..

Thanks for the reply, i looked through that guide and nothing seems to have helped. This is the hijack this log:

I don't know if it's configured correctly...if it even CAN be...but indexers cause uTorrent all kinds of grief:

Do you have any suggestions, i tried disabling the process but it didnt do anything. Do you or anyone have any ideas cause this is really irritating me..

Not really, but what's the purpose of all these repeated entries?:

There's about 10 similar entries in your log.

I did a bit of googling and i think they belong to my ISP(bigpond), i have no idea why there are so many though and im not even sure what they are for.

I can't help much more with dissecting your hijackthis log.

However, your problem may be caused by uTorrent's settings being a bit too much for your connection. A common cause is upload speed, though max connections could remotely cause a problem too on unstable networking hardware or software.

I too am with bigpond and had no disconnection problems until i upgraded to a faster adsl connection. since then i have had major problems staying connected when downloading through utorrent. i have followed all the speed guides and the hijackthis and no problems. i have downloaded and installed the patch for windows vista still no luck, so i rang telstra bigpond up and they said it was because my line filta was not the right model for the higher speed connection, so they sent me the correct one, but still i am having the same problem with disconnections. any help would be great

Posted

my line speed is 4.2 and i can sometimes get up 400 kb downloading but then very quickly drops back out, i've been able to download one 700mb file without it droping out. and i just leave uploading on unlimited but only ever reaches 80 or so then once ive seeded as much as the movie i stop it from seeding.

ive played around with just the basic settings and tried pretty much every speed on the list none seem to help the problem. I'm running Vista home basic

You need to set max upload speed at or below uTorrent's sustainable upload levels. Otherwise, the overloads on your connection caused by it can trigger other problems...high latency being the absolute minimum result. It may even trigger your ISP to throttle your connection very low due to excessive bandwidth usage!

Not only does upload speed need to be limited, but the default values for uTorrent if you haven't run Speed Guide (CTRL+G) are generally VERY bad for most connections. I recently got a HUGE speed increase on my line and the settings are still too much for it.

Too many global and per-torrent connections at once can also cause lots of slowdowns...as well as raising a warning flag for your ISP. Also there's a LOT of consumer-grade networking hardware and software that cannot handle more than 100 connections at once without problems. :(

1st and 2nd link in my signature can help you more...the 2nd one is conservative settings for uTorrent based on max upload speed. I assume max upload speed is what your connection can actually reach, rather than just the reported value by your ISP.
