Watcher07
Hi, I've having a problem with uTorrent 1.7.6 after installing new router Linksys WRT310N. Start to get a NAT problem, I need to forward the port, went to this page http://www.portforward.com/english/routers/port_forwarding/Linksys/WRT310N/Utorrent.htmNow, I've having two simple & dumb questions 1- Is the static ip the same as my PC IP?2- Under the applicant name should I write Utor1 as it is said in the page or write the full name of the application uTorrent 1.7.6 ?3- What else I should do to forward the port correctly ? Ultima
1. The static IP is the static IP you set up for your computer.2. Doesn't matter what you name it, as long as you know what it is.3. Tell us what modem you're using? What firewall you're using? Make sure you set a static IP up for your computer outside of the router's DHCP range? Watcher07
I've Speedtouch modem, as for the firewall I disabled it except Windows firewall. The other question is about the port numbers. I noticed that the port number in the Speed Guide is different from the one in the connection menu. Is that normal? Should I check the option to randomize port ? what are the advantages & disadvantages Thanks,
The_Nephilim
Hi, Did you add that Router for Wireless?? IF so the Correct Device to have gotten is a Wireless Access Point. If you can't take the Router back you can change the Modem into Bridge Mode.
Watcher07
Yes, we needed a wireless connection to be added to the network.I'm not really an expert in computer, what do you mean by "change the Modem into Bridge Mode." ?What about the ports, how that affect the speed ? Ultima
http://bt.degreez.net/firewalled.htmlThat's why you need to fix the port forwarding issue. As for bridge mode... basically, your modem acts as a router, and is blocking incoming connections. You need to enter its configuration page (probably by connecting your computer directly to the modem, then chekcing the whole ipconfig /all stuff to figure out your default gateway IP under the modem. Watcher07
Should I restart my PC after I save the new setting in the router ?
Ultima
No, it shouldn't matter whether you restart your computer unless you just set a static IP up for it.
Watcher07
OK, here is the situation, I went to this page http://portforward.com/english/routers/port_forwarding/Linksys/WRT310N/Utorrent.htm& did as instructed, I forward a range of port by using "Port Range Forwarding" & saved the setting, but still got this error "Error! Port 62400 does not appear to be open. Please see www.portforward.com for more information about how to map a port. Please make absolutely sure that PeerGuardian2 or Protowall is allowing utorrent.com (72.20.34.145) in either of those programs. Those of you using ipfilter.dat should make sure the list does not include the website's IP. After making sure of this, re-run this test by refreshing the page (F5)."What I'm missing ? Firon
Do you have any firewall besides the Windows firewall?
Watcher07
Yes, but I add exception to allow uTorrent connections.

Watcher07
I'm using Kaspersky Internet Security, but it is not the problem, because I used to get good speed before & it only got worse after I bought the new router linksys WRt-310N. I can't figure out why the port forwarding is not working !
Firon
I bet your port forwarding will magically work if you uninstall Kaspersky. It's probably silently blocking µTorrent, despite the exceptions (firewalls have a nasty habit of doing that). Sometimes removing and recreating all exceptions works. Watcher07
I might do it but I need to make sure that I done everything correct about the port forwarding.1- I went to this page http://portforward.com/english/routers/ … orrent.htm2- I followed the instruction as it said. I forward a range of port by using "Port Range Forwarding" & then saved the setting.3- I ran the test but I still got the same error that port is NOT open. Q1. What went wrong, other than the firewall issue?Q2. Will it matter if I restarted the PC or the router after saving the setting.
Firon
Well, the easiest factor to eliminate is the firewall. Uninstalling it is the quickest way to go. Then you can find out if your forwarding is actually working or not. Also, you should upgrade to µTorrent 1.7.7, as 1.7.6 has some security issues. Watcher07
I upgrade to µTorrent 1.7.7 & still got the same problem. Spent all week reading about the problem & then I found out that my "modem" Speedtouch 546, which I got from my ISP, is not just a modem but also a router. Which might be the reason why I'm having this problem with the speed & port forwarding. What I want now is to setup Speedtouch to act just as a modem.I mean, what I should do to set it up in bridge mode to do that ?Thanks,
The_Nephilim
Hi, You may have to call your ISP to get the Modem into Bridge Mode. Give that a try..
Watcher07
My ISP sucks when it come to technical help, it take forever just to get a simple answer.
The_Nephilim
well then you can try it your self. Either that or you can turn the 2nd Router into a Switch/Hub/WAP following this guide:http://forum.portforward.com/YaBB.cgi?board=Knowledge;action=display;num=1133918703
