Can't change the tray icon

Can someone please check if I'm doing something wrong. I've created a tray.ico and placed it in both the appsdata/utorrent folder and in the folder where the .exe located. Both way round it wont change and I have no idea what I'm doing wrong. Do tray icons have to have limited colour count or something? That's the only thing I can think of - that I'm making it wrong. Any tips would be appreciated, I'm trying to make it appear the same as an unavailable network connection (hide it from my brother who likes to turn it off when he's on the PC - something about slowing it down - pfft, this is utorrent!). I'm on 1.3.

Cheers for any help.

bluecube: you can also hide it with the boss key in µTorrent (use a difficult command so he won't inadvertently activate it). Or, you could slap him and tell him to leave it alone, which is what I would do... :/

He, no I obviously didn't mean "appsdata", sorry, but yes I do know where my utorrent folder is :P

As for the boss key.... Show me the way master, I see no boss key option. That would be perfect!

Options ▶ Prefences... ▶ Other Options ▶ Boss Key. Click in the box and type a key (or key combination). And to make the tray icon invisible, in General Options unselect Always show tray icon. The process will still be shown on the Task Manager though, as that isn't easy to hide... :/

Doh!

Right, if I update to the beta 286. Firstly, is it quite stable? Secondly, how will torrents slot in, will I have to add them again? And my options, will they cross over?

Cheers for your help!

It's quite stable IMO, torrents shouldn't be affected at all (so no, you don't have to add them again) and your options will stay intact (only the columns will be reset, but that's a minor inconvenience). :)

Edit: Help ▶ Check for updates. The whole upgrading process will be done for you automagically, but I'm not sure if it includes Beta releases, probably not. :/ Still, it's good to know this when the stable release comes out. :)

Be prepared to be banned from a few trackers (not permanent -- just until you stop using v1.3.1 beta), since *some* admins don't want their trackers to be testbeds for beta software.
