Darbre Posted December 30, 2005 Report Posted December 30, 2005 When trying to start a torrent from Torrentbox, 2 things happen. In uTorrent/Tracker status the following two lines alternate. First one says " A socket operation was attempted to an unreachable host". The second says "Invalid URL". The torrent will not start. If I close uTorrent and start the same torrent file in Bit Comet, it immediately starts getting the file. I like uTorrent and would like to use it, but this error makes this impossible. Hopefully, it's just a setting somewhere.I'm running WinXP Pro/SP2, and using trying to use uTorrent v1.3 bld 134.Darbre
Ultima Posted December 30, 2005 Report Posted December 30, 2005 Torrentbox uses UDP and HTTP... maybe you're seeing the error for the UDP tracker URL. I picked a random torrent, and it appears to be connecting. Try reading the FAQ (and specifically, this section).*deletes torrent*
Firon Posted December 31, 2005 Report Posted December 31, 2005 Probably, yeah. Also, check this list. http://www.utorrent.com/faq.php#Incompatible_software
Darbre Posted December 31, 2005 Author Report Posted December 31, 2005 Thanks for the suggestions. I'd already read the FAQ, reading it again didn't hurt though. I do NOT have any of the incompatible software installed so that's not it.Ultima.....Can I assume from your post that a Torrentbox file started with a "working"in the uTorrent Tracker Status line?Darbre
splintax Posted January 22, 2006 Report Posted January 22, 2006 I know I'm reviving an old thread here, but...Well, if anyone else has this problem - "A socket operation was attempted to an unreachable host" - check PeerGuardian / your IP blocker. That was what was stuffing me over just then when I got it.
Perriman33 Posted February 6, 2006 Report Posted February 6, 2006 Cheers mate was trying to work out what was wrong. Every time i started a torrent the tracker would be found ,then after a couple of minutes "A socket operation...." message would appear, and the tracker would be lost. Trouble is switching off peer guardian worked but has left a big gap in the defences, any ideas how I can get guardian to not interfere. I presume it's just a problem with utorrent as my old client didn't have this problem!Ideas anyone?

Well, either use an ipfilter.dat for μTorrent and disable PG when you're downloading from that tracker, or add the IPs PG is blocking to its "permanent permit" list. I'm getting the "socket" error sometimes, so I disable PG and stay with ipfilter.dat for μTorrent. You can use Blocklist Manager to make an ipfilter.dat and point it to update μTorrent's ipfilter.dat, although you'll have to disable/enable ipfilter.dat from μTorrent Advanced Options for the updated filter to work.
Perriman33 Posted February 6, 2006 Report Posted February 6, 2006 Cheers mate, how do I go about making an ipfilter.dat from the list manager?
avatarl Posted February 7, 2006 Report Posted February 7, 2006 Download Blocklist Manager from www.bluetack.co.uk, install it, run it, check the sources you want.In Options, make sure that Auto Update is checked in the General settings, In Options/App Location, check the IPFilter (emule/edonkey) entry and point the program in Application Data/utorrent folder. In Options/Selected Filters, check the emule/Donk/IPFilter option. Hit the process button in the Main Interface, it will download a list from the sources you selected and will update (probably ask you first) utorrent's ipfilter.dat.I don't know if it's necessary but before attempting this, create an empty ipfilter.dat in the Application Data/utorrent directory.
Perriman33 Posted February 7, 2006 Report Posted February 7, 2006 Cheers mate, I noticed it's happening with most of the big trackers. I think some of the ip adress is the same as blocked ones. Strange how it only happens with utorrent. As a temporary measure I unblocked the one causing the problem! Thanks for the help

BloodStaindHurricane Posted March 30, 2006 Report Posted March 30, 2006 Same issue here when d/l a torrent from torrentbox.
hofshi Posted March 30, 2006 Report Posted March 30, 2006 I found the solution.enter Peerguardian and Allow the following IP address permanently:64.34.169.24worked for me. (if you surf to this address you get to IsoHunt, but still it solved my torrentbox problem)
hofshi Posted March 30, 2006 Report Posted March 30, 2006 did it work for you too, BloodStaindHurricane ?
BloodStaindHurricane Posted March 30, 2006 Report Posted March 30, 2006 Havent tried it w/ a torrent from TorrentBox yet. Will do and post the results. Isnt TorrentBox maintained by the same group that maintains ISOHunt?*UPDATE*Allowed the IP in PG2 and removed the udp tracker from the torrent. Downloading fine w/ no tracker errors.
hofshi Posted March 30, 2006 Report Posted March 30, 2006 I'm happy to hear that. Thanks to splintax for pointing us in the right direction.
illogical Posted September 3, 2006 Report Posted September 3, 2006 Very simple solution.http://forums.torrentbox.com/viewtopic.php?t=10920Just edit your IP filter list. Also we no longer use the UDP tracker.
