Laconius
First off let me state that i'm using 64-bit windows vista ultimate. I've been getting this weird memory problems with utorrent 1.7.7 . I left some torrents seeding overnight and I checked the task manager's memory usage for Utorrent.exe read 30,436K. I checked back in the morning its said 625,025K. I ran a virus scan with AVG and it found nothing. I removed everything from the download location, torrents included. I Uninstalled utorrent and installed Utorrent beta 1.8 (build 11086). The beta seemed like it was going alright but then my computer slowed down significantly when utorrent was open (2 files seeding). It didnt appear to be a memory problem this time, it was the CPU. utorrent was a major process on the CPU. I closed utorrent but it refused to close so i had to terminate the process. I restarted the computer, tried again and got the same result. I reverted back to 1.7.7 and havent had a problem since. I don't know if it was a virus or what, I just want to make sure it doesnt happen again.
Switeck
It could be indirectly caused by something ComCast is doing, with them disconnecting peers very quickly and uTorrent then trying to reconnect...something in your computer's networking hardware or software may not be able to handle that nicely. It's probably not a virus, probably just badly written commercial software...such as your software firewall or antivirus software. uTorrent with high CPU usage is almost always caused by some deeply-linked-into-the-operating-system program that is causing the high CPU usage...and uTorrent gets the blame. Switeck
It *IS* something serious...I'm just saying it's quite likely not a virus.Corporate software that includes phone-home features that screw up networking and monitor other programs...may as well be called hostile.
