elvis56 Posted December 31, 2005 Report Posted December 31, 2005 I'm sure there must be something fundamentally wrong with the utorrent client. Normally i use Bitcomet but because more and more sites are blocking Bitcomet i started looking for another client. utorrent has some nice features and is small so i decided to give it a try.I set the settings in utorrent similar to Bitcomet(not using DHT) and tested with a few torrents. I was very disappointed by the speeds i got but i couldn't test those torrents with Bitcomet. Then i tried some other torrents, all well seeded(35+) and i always get good speeds from torrents from that site.Again very slow speeds(like 10 KB/sec per torrent), 5 torrents in total so around 50 KB/sec total download speed. Then i tried the same set of torrents with Bitcomet and got 900 KB/sec. This was just a few minutes after trying with utorrent. Then i visited the utorrent forums and found out many many people complaining about speed problems. I tried changing several settings in utorrent but nothing seemed to increase download speed.Just to be complete i tried the ABC client and again i got good speeds(also around 900 KB/sec).Firewall is properly configured, i have a 1MB/1MB fiber connection so that can't be the problem and as i said other clients get great download speeds.I used utorrent version 1.3.1 Beta build 378
1c3d0g Posted December 31, 2005 Report Posted December 31, 2005 Did you try Build 386? Many people are reporting an improvement in their speeds with that build... :|
elvis56 Posted December 31, 2005 Author Report Posted December 31, 2005 I will give that a try, update coming later today. I did try "check for update" from within the utorrent client but it doesn't seem to check for new beta versions.
tqmAyT Posted December 31, 2005 Report Posted December 31, 2005 i was using beta 380 and downloading 1 torrent was an average of 'bout 35kB/s. stopped the download and opened beta 386 started the same torrent and now downloading average is 'bout 75kB/s. i changed nothing in any settings...just pushed the start butt-on
chaosblade Posted December 31, 2005 Report Posted December 31, 2005 Do try the latest beta and report back.Just a comment though: For every (usualy those who did NOT read the FAQ and did NOT try to configure uTorrent properly) person that reports speed issues there are about 5 of us who get perfect speeds. Just a thought. I hardly think anything in uTorrent is "fundamentally wrong". :]
Firon Posted December 31, 2005 Report Posted December 31, 2005 99% of problems = settings settings settingthe last 1% was issues with BitComet sucking, which the latest beta takes care of
lynx Posted December 31, 2005 Report Posted December 31, 2005 UPNP setting standard on in uTorrent fucks my speed up. UPNP off and uTorrent goes like a rocket !
