zeesh1986
Hi,I've got this weird problem that even though i have forwarded all my ports...a port that is open...suddenly gets blocked...and then my speeds drop a lot as well....and at times after the port has been blocked for a while...it suddenly becomes open again...at times it happens a lot and i keep changing the ports...and one after the other they'd get blocked after a while....and at other times it rarely happens...how do i fix this??? GTHK
What's the network status light and mouse over messages? How does it work while running an OpenOffice torrent? Are you using a WRT54G Linksys router? Are you using a Linksys router? Are you using a static IP address? What Internet security and/or anti-virus software are you using? You're only supposed to forward your listening port, anything more then that unnecessarily exposes your computer. zeesh1986
well when it shows the green circle with a tick...its says network is okay and it should be working like it should... when it get an error it suddenly becomes a yellow triangle with an exclamation marki'm not using a router...i have a repotec NWay Switch...model RP-1708ki am using a static IPi doubt it has to do with anti virus software...currently i haev mcafee...b4 i had avg free verison...even when i didn't have one....i think it still caused a probthis problem i have can happen with any torrent...if i'm not around the port cud get blocked...and probably resolve itself w/o me ever knowing that it even happened
GTHK
Mcafee isn't very good to my knowledge. Anyway, do the block/unblock times have any discernible patterns to them? Did you try the OpenOffice torrent? What ISP are you using? And there has to be a NAT router to port forward crap from the Internet.
alaskaonline
I have a similar problem with mine, but i can't get the yellow triangle to go away i am using a lynksys wrt54gs that has been flashed with ddwrt v23 sp2 i have forwarded a single port properly and have made sure there is an exception for utorr in my firewall settings i am running avast a/v. Still no green and i cant figure out why, can anyone help me out here with another idea?

zeesh1986
i haven't found any particular pattern to it...i've thought of pretty much everything...but just can't seem to relate it to anything...i'll try the open office torrent...but wud it really tell me anything...it cud be by chance if it doesn't mess up during that time...also i have no idea about a NAT router and stuff...don't know a lot about this stuff...my isp is maxcom...its dsl...i'm in pakistan
GTHK
OpenOffice has very good swarms which make it ideal for testing.
zeesh1986
i finally tried the open office torrent...well the problem still happened...i kept checking the port every once and a while...and right when the download was about to finished...the port showed the error...the status hadn't been updated by then...it still showed the green light...but it did give an error and said that the port does not appear to be open...also my speeds kept fluctuating...on the speed graph it looked like mountains...might have to do with only a couple seeders...b4 i tried the open office torrent...i was downloading something else and the problem happened...i changed the port....and then when the status was okay...thats when i stopped that and started to download the open office torrent...what should i do now???oh and afterwards...when it finally gave the yellow triangle...after a while...it turned back to green and the port was open again...it didn't take so long this time...but normally it can take forever as well
Switeck
If you're at least occasionally getting a green light, but it changes to yellow...then you probably have a networking hardware or software overload somewhere.Best bet, reduce settings in uTorrent.Half open max in uTorrent definitely needs to be no higher than 8...and on some Vista Home edition versions as low as 2!2nd link in my signature has conservative settings for uTorrent. zeesh1986
i'm running all default settings...half open max is 8...i'm running windows xp professional...i haven't changed any utorrent settings myself...what exactly cud be causing the overload...any idea??? Switeck
If you're uploading faster than your connection can sustain...expect problems, even strange sometimes firewalled problems. If you're allowing 100+ connections at once...and there's ANY weakness in your networking hardware or software, all sorts of bad things can happen IF/WHEN you're actually on torrents with >100 seeds+peers. Alot of people don't experience this problem at first because many of the torrents they're on have fewer seeds+peers, or they're firewalled and can only connect to the unfirewalled seeds+peers (which are somewhat rare). Please post what your connection's measured upload and download speeds are...and what settings you're using in uTorrent as shown by Speed Guide (CTRL+G). I'm reasonably sure I can spot a joker somewhere.
zeesh1986
well i have a 1 Mbps download bandwidth and 384 Kbps upload bandwidth...the max down speed that i have ever seen is around 107...average is usually much lower...my connection doesn't use more than 90% of the bandwidth it seems...upload can go up to 40...so in speed guide the connection type i use is xx/384k...upload limit is 35...upload slots are 4...connections are 80...global connections are 230...max active torrents are 3...max active downloads are 2...i normally just download 1 torrent at a time...and while downloading i have experienced that if i was to restrict the upload to around 25...or 15 at times....the download speeds do increase quite a bit...and helps the average overall as well
Switeck
I would not expect the download speed to increase significantly when you decrease upload speed from 25 to 15 KiloBYTES/second...not if download max is only about 100 KiloBYTES/second and your upload max is around 40 KiloBYTES/second.Maybe you have too many connections at once?Since you mentioned typically only running 1 torrent at a time, that'd mean you have 80 connections at most?If you're only running 1 torrent, try raising upload slots to 6 and upload speed to 30-35 KiloBYTES/second. Those 6 peers you're uploading to have a HUGE incentive to give you a lot back in return. uTorrent does an ok effort to find the fastest peers to upload to...so they give you more back.
