D-503
I get the Network OK MSG. I have port 54712 forwarded.I have Windows XP Pro SP1 on a Toshiba Satellite 1130That's a P4 based Celeron 1.8ghz with 256mb RAM.I have no eye candy on my system and have it tweaked to the max with various speed tweaks for best cpu and ram performance.I'm in South Australia with a little ISP called EscNet. They don't thottle you or anything. And with certain private trackers I max out my download and upload speeds but with public trackers (especially torrentbox) it's slow as hell. Anyway I want to know what are the optimal settings for torrent options and also some of the advanced options such as: diskio.write_queue_size which is currently set to -1 and a few other things for optimal performance.I have a 512/128 connection (64/16 in kilobytes) on a Billion BIPAC 5100 (same as a 5100W without wireless) ADSL/Modem 4-Port Router. It's recommended on www.portforward.com to set a static lan ip for the 5100W model and that's what I've done. I read a while ago that a static lan ip was best also with the 5100 model Billion BIPAC router aswell when using Bit Torrent for some reason. So that's how I have it set. So basically the DHCP server is turned off in my router config and in network connections in Internet Protocol tcp/ip properties for the LAN (basically my net connection) things such as the IP , gateway IP, DNS servers, etc are manually set instead of being determined by the DHCP server and which port the network patch cable is in.The maximum constant download or upload speeds I can get over Bit Torrent are 53-54/12-13. I usually set my upload to 9 when downloading and 11-13 when seeding depending if I'm doing anything else on the net (or someone else is). Sometimes I'll set my download to 50kb/s because on some private trackers my speed will totally max out and I won't even be able to surf the net if speed conditions are too good so 50kb/s down and 9kb/s up is probably the optimal down and up speeds for me. Now I just need to work out some other settings such as: Is it really necessary to enable UPnP on my router so that programs such as uTorrent and others can do the port forwarding for me? Does it really affect performance at all? Because I've forwarded it manually. And finally to my main question, what are the optimal settings for Torrent Options? Here's what everything is set to now:No. Of Connections:Global max no.1 of connection: 200Maximum no. of connected peers per torrent: 50Number of upload slots per torrent: 4Use addition upload slots if upload speed < 90% = CheckedQueue:Max no. of active torrents (upload or download): 4Max no. of active downloads: 1Other Settings = All boxes checkedEnabled scraping, Pre-allocate disk space, Enable DHT & Enable DHT for new torrentsAs for Network Options as mentioned above port is 54712. Randomise port is off as is UPnP as port is forwarded manually. Everything else I've mentioned above or set to default. Any chance of finding out what I can do with more of the advanced options. For example what could net.max_halfopen = 8 be set to and what is it for exactly? Is it kind of like what the lvllord SP2 tcpip.sys patch takes care of in SP2? What can I set diskio.write_queue_size to?And what does it do exactly. Has anyone written down what each of these settings does, what they can be set to and what setting them to other than their default would do. One more thing with advanced options can I edit both the gui.ulrate_menu & gui.dlrate_menu 's? And have what I set them to have an effect? I know that they are kind of like the same thing as with Azureus however. I don't have a connection that reaches 500kB/s so I was hoping to be able to set them in increments up to 64 for download as 512 kilobits = 64 kilobytes and 16 for upload as 128 kilobits = 16 kilobytes.I don't get the point of having these advanced options there if you can't do anything with them so I suspect that they are there for people to tweak. It would be just good to know what they do.
Firon
Turn off UPnP in your router too? :]http://www.utorrent.com/faq.php#Does_.C2.B5Torrent_work_well_on_Windows_XP_SP2_systems_with_an_unpatched_TCPIP.sys.3FIf you patch tcpip.sys to 100 (which you should definitely do no matter what), you can set net.max_halfopen to 70, but raising net.max_halfopen may overload your hardware, so do it at your own risk.http://www.utorrent.com/faq.php#What_do_all_those_settings_in_Advanced_Options_do.3FUse 3 upload slots, uncheck the 90% thing. You shouldn't really run more than 2 torrents with your connection speed. Lower your number of connections to 40.

So how will net.max_half_open work with no need to patch tcpip.sys?K. Lowered no. of max connections to 40 is that what you meant? What about number of connected peers per torrent? Uncheded the 90% thing. Set 3 upload slots and set max active torrents to 2 ;-).
Firon
Since you don't have to patch tcpip.sys, you can technically set it as high as you want, but 70 should be more than sufficient.Max connections/torrent to 40, global at 150 (just in case you have to force a few or whatever)
