MASK619 Posted July 12, 2008 Report Posted July 12, 2008 HI,I used to download at around 50kb/s until recently, my download speed is only 20 now i didnt change any thing. and this is happening to a lot of my friend. i used utorrent 1.7.7 i have tried 1.8 but no thing changed.what should i do?!
jewelisheaven Posted July 12, 2008 Report Posted July 12, 2008 Are you still uploading at or near your max upload speed? What is your set upload limit? Are you on an ISP which enforces quotas in the AUP/FUP/ToS/EULA ?
MASK619 Posted July 12, 2008 Author Report Posted July 12, 2008 yes my uploading speed is still good. its around 16 kB/s i don't know anything about these: AUP/FUP/ToS/EULA??
jewelisheaven Posted July 12, 2008 Report Posted July 12, 2008 Apologies. In order, acceptable use policy; fair use policy; terms of service; end user license agreementUsually the ISP will make you sign, or tell you you agreed to one of these. It should list "limitations on your service" which SHOULD include things like a quota you are paying for (i.e. they offer 3 plans, 20/mo 30/mo 40/mo... the 20 gives 6 GB up and down, 30 gives you 10 GB up and down, and 40 gives you 20 GB up and down)... and whether or not you can have time(s) where your data up or down is not counted (i.e. M-F midnight-4am are free download time, Weekends 6a-12 noon uploads are not counted).Mainly I'm suggesting check out your agreement, or check/ask their support people to point you at your service agreement and anything the ISP can do to your connection to keep you from getting what you pay for. It never hurts to ask. Or even more directly, while talking to them you can ask "do you interfere with data traffic?" or "after a certain quota do you degrade service?"As far as your upload. 16 in uT equates to ~ xx/128 speeds. Does that sound like the number your ISP would give you. Usually it's not stated on the advertisements.. they like to BOLD capitalize underline DOWNLOAD speeds. Upload be damned What you can try is see if your download increases say on http://slackware.com/torrents/ as you decrease the upload from 16 to 8 to start. You only need to run slackware for a minute or two to verify the change. If your download still sucks.. investigate further. Perhaps by starting to run slackware every hour for 1-2 minutes. Keep track of your data... experienced speeds/internet troubles browsing while torrenting/etc. It's much easier to ask-for or get an auto-escalation on support requests when you're not simply a concerned patron saying " my internet is slower than it used to be "
assom Posted July 13, 2008 Report Posted July 13, 2008 hello all . i have the same problem , i have a good line .. i have 2M but the download still 16 - 25 k .. but the upload is good .. it is between 100-150 k .. but why the download is so bad even the torrent have too many seeds ..
MASK619 Posted July 13, 2008 Author Report Posted July 13, 2008 this problem is regional. i mean its happening to all torrents user specifically in Palestine. we asked the our provider about it and they said that the didn't do any thing. this problem is driving me crazy!!
Switeck Posted July 14, 2008 Report Posted July 14, 2008 The ISP they're getting connected to the REST of the internet through may be throttling/dropping connections.
