Hoth
This is a problem that originated after installing and using Utorrent. I can shut Utorrent down and even reboot my computer but the activity light on my DSL modem and in XP's connection status window still indicate a continuous stream of packets being sent and received. I have a Netgear WGR614 router and thus no firewall software. What is going on and how do I stop it?
jewelisheaven
... no idea. Windows comes with two tools to check current connections, netstat and nbtstat. I prefer the graphical interface to it, tcpview found @ http://sysinternals.comFind out what IP/hosts you're still connected to. Or run start->run->cmd /k netstat -aYou may find that command takes forever in which case you can use alternate flags for per-process or not resolve DNS, but if you're getting any large number of connections when you shouldn't... check out tcpview, it shows all of it in one nice window. Firon
Other clients have your IP:port cached, so they will constantly hit you up and try to connect to you, as there's no way to really tell them that you're gone. The amount of hits will drop down over time, but there is no way to really eliminate it (except change IPs).The bandwidth used is infinitesimal. Nothing to worry about.
