Stepha2010
When I open utorrent, Windows Internet Explorer slows down dramatically, even if the download speed of utorrent is not high.I even tried to by-pass the router and I have the same problem.I am using Vista PremiumAny suggestions? nmalinovic
Hi, I am very new to this forum and apparently only here I can write a post. I have been using utorrent for some time now and I never had any problems. Howerver, few days ago, my IE would not work at all (it would say Connecting but it would never connect) if utorrent is on, regardless if Im downloading/uploading or not. I read and tried all Common procedure but nothing seems to work. the colour of the uTorrent status bar is greenSpeed Guide Settings Connection Type 256k Upload Limit 22kB/s Connections 70 Max active torrents 2 Upload Slots3 Connections (global) 130 Max active downloads 1Speed test - Download 1011, Upload 251net.max_halfopen 8Operating System - Windows Vista Home PremiumCPU - Intel® Core2 T5200 @ 1.60 GHzRAM 1014MBSystem Type 32 - bit Operating SystemWindows Live OneCare antivirusrouter smc 8014 w-gService provider RogersHijackthisLogfile of Trend Micro HijackThis v2.0.2Scan saved at 12:50:02 PM, on 27/07/2008Platform: Windows Vista (WinNT 6.00.1904)MSIE: Internet Explorer v7.00 (7.00.6000.16681)Boot mode: NormalRunning processes:C:\Windows\system32\Dwm.exeC:\Windows\system32\taskeng.exeC:\Windows\Explorer.EXEC:\Windows\RtHDVCpl.exeC:\Program Files\Synaptics\SynTP\SynTPEnh.exeC:\Acer\Empowering Technology\eDataSecurity\eDSloader.exeC:\Program Files\Launch Manager\LManager.exeC:\Program Files\Common Files\Logitech\LComMgr\Communications_Helper.exeC:\Program Files\Common Files\Logitech\LComMgr\LVComSX.exeC:\Program Files\Acer\OrbiCam10\OrbiCam.exeC:\Program Files\Common Files\Pure Networks Shared\Platform\nmctxth.exeC:\Program Files\Pure Networks\Network Magic\nmapp.exeC:\Windows\System32\igfxtray.exeC:\Windows\System32\hkcmd.exeC:\Windows\System32\igfxpers.exeC:\Program Files\Rogers\SelfHealing\shs.exeC:\Program Files\Lexmark 6500 Series\lxdfmon.exeC:\Program Files\Lexmark 6500 Series\lxdfamon.exeC:\Program Files\ESET\ESET Smart Security\egui.exeC:\Program Files\Microsoft Windows OneCare Live\winssnotify.exeC:\Program Files\Java\jre1.6.0_05\bin\jusched.exeC:\Program Files\Windows Sidebar\sidebar.exeC:\Windows\ehome\ehtray.exeC:\Windows\system32\igfxsrvc.exeC:\Program Files\Google\GoogleToolbarNotifier\1.2.1128.5462\GoogleToolbarNotifier.exeC:\Program Files\Windows Media Player\wmpnscfg.exeC:\Program Files\WinZip\WZQKPICK.EXEC:\Users\Owner\AppData\Local\Temp\RtkBtMnt.exeC:\Windows\ehome\ehmsas.exeC:\Acer\Empowering Technology\ENET\ENMTRAY.EXEC:\Acer\Empowering Technology\ACER.EMPOWERING.FRAMEWORK.SUPERVISOR.EXEC:\Acer\Empowering Technology\eRecovery\ERAGENT.EXEC:\Windows\system32\igfxext.exeC:\Program Files\Yahoo!\Messenger\ymsgr_tray.exeC:\Windows\system32\wbem\unsecapp.exeC:\Windows\system32\taskeng.exeC:\Windows\system32\conime.exeC:\Program Files\Common Files\Real\Update_OB\realsched.exeC:\Program Files\Virtual Villagers 3 - The Secret City Fixed\Virtual Villagers - The Secret City.exeC:\Program Files\VSO\ConvertX\3\ConvertXtoDvd.exeC:\Program Files\Internet Explorer\ieuser.exeC:\Program Files\Internet Explorer\iexplore.exeC:\Program Files\Common Files\Microsoft Shared\Windows Live\WLLoginProxy.exeC:\Windows\system32\SearchFilterHost.exeC:\Program Files\Trend Micro\HijackThis\HijackThis.exeR1 - HKCU\Software\Microsoft\Internet Explorer\Main,Search Page = http://ca.rd.yahoo.com/customize/ycomp/defaults/sp/*http://ca.yahoo.comR0 - HKCU\Software\Microsoft\Internet Explorer\Main,Start Page = http://rogers.yahoo.comR1 - HKLM\Software\Microsoft\Internet Explorer\Main,Default_Page_URL = http://rogers.yahoo.comR1 - HKLM\Software\Microsoft\Internet Explorer\Main,Default_Search_URL = http://go.microsoft.com/fwlink/?LinkId=54896R1 - HKLM\Software\Microsoft\Internet Explorer\Main,Search Page = http://go.microsoft.com/fwlink/?LinkId=54896R0 - HKLM\Software\Microsoft\Internet Explorer\Main,Start Page = http://rogers.yahoo.comR0 - HKLM\Software\Microsoft\Internet Explorer\Search,SearchAssistant = R0 - HKLM\Software\Microsoft\Internet Explorer\Search,CustomizeSearch = R1 - HKCU\Software\Microsoft\Internet Explorer\SearchURL,(Default) = http://ca.rd.yahoo.com/customize/ycomp/defaults/su/*http://ca.yahoo.comR0 - HKCU\Software\Microsoft\Internet Explorer\Toolbar,LinksFolderName = R3 - URLSearchHook: Yahoo! thelittlefire
Well, firstly you're on Rogers; I'm sorry. You will want to reduce the number of connections per torrent and turn off extra features like DHT and LPD if you're already setup CORRECTLY.. if not, in Ctrl-G select something HIGHLY restrictive like xx/128 for starters. Even the limited settings from the Speed Guide which you're using now may not be low enough. Can you think of anything else which happened around the time your internet stopped working? If you turn off and back on the SMC does internet come back?Secondly did you install non-english software O4 - HKCU\..\Run: [?????????] ??????????????e?Also I see ESET there... If you're using v 2.7 you should remove/turn off IMON and add uTorrent to the exclusions list. There's a sticky or you should be able to search rather easily for "ESET" configuration. nmalinovic
Everything was working fine except my speed slowed down to like 0.9 - 5 so I checked here how to make it faster. Then I ran the Speed Test on Speed Guide and ever since then my EI is not working. All the programs I had before even ESET SmartSecurity 3.0.621.0. With regards to Rogers Cable, I've been using it for ages now so I don't think thats the problem. I tried lowering the upload limit to 5 and it still doesnt help.I dont know what is the "non-english software" O4 - HKCU\..\Run: [?????????] ??????????????e? What should I do with it? How?How do I restrict connections per torrent?I have internet connection all the time and uTorrent is downloading or uploading, but my Internet Explorer (browser) doesnt work. Whatever page I want to open it just says Connecting... and its attempting to connect. However, when I turn off uTorrent and wait like 2-3 min the IE starts working again. thelittlefire
You should follow the troubleshooting sticky... with that description though it sounds like you should lower Ctrl-P -> Advanced -> net.max_halfopen
nmalinovic
I tried that and nothing....still the same... :(
Firon
Is net.max_halfopen set to 8 or less? If so, then try uninstalling ESET. NOT disabling, uninstall.
nmalinovic
it looks like that was the problem,.....but the funny thing is that I had that ESET for a long time and it just started making problems..Thanks for helpit is very appritiated
Switeck
Probably updated itself to a flakey version...next update may "fix" it, at least for now.
Firon
You could probably reinstall it and start disabling some of its features (like email and HTTP scanner) to see if you can get it to work.
nmalinovic
thanks guys for help. I dont want to experiment anymore. I didnt use ESET anyways. Im happy how it works now, except that the speed is not more than 10kb/s but its okay I guess.
Switeck
Experiment with uTorrent's encryption settings...you might get at least double that sometimes.
Firon
Does the performance get any better when you bypass the router? And yes, forced encryption may or may not help... Rogers is kind of lame about throttling BT.
Switeck
Rogers throttles all encrypted traffic, last I heard...possibly to only around 30 KiloBYTES/second total. They may also let a small amount of unencrypted BitTorrent traffic through...potentially adding to your encrypted traffic.I'd say forced outgoing connections and allow legacy incoming.DHT, UPnP, Local Peer Discovery, and Resolve IPs -- DISABLE IT ALL!Keep Peer Exchange enabled....And possibly reduce your global and per-torrent connection max even below the values I have in the 2nd link in my signature. No sense paying bandwidth for extra connections that just counts against your throttled max limit, seeing as how the throttled max limit is likely really low.
