thepoolhustlerman
Hi guys, I still can't get to open my port in utorrent. Still have that yellow and sometimes red icon. I've done port forwarding in my modem and followed the guide in www.portforward.com. I also add exeptions in Windows Firewall. I already followed this guide http://utorrent.com/setup_guide.php and this one also http://forum.utorrent.com/viewtopic.php?id=34259. My connection speed is 512kbps.I aslo used the Glanost Test to check if My ISP is manipulating torrent traffic but every result is OK. I'm currently using utorrent 1.7.7, Windows XP SP2. My setup is Prolink 5200 ADSL Modem --> Computer. Anyone knows what's the problem that I can't open ports?
Firon
You may want to disable UPnP if you're manually forwarding a port. Did you setup a static IP for your computer outside the DHCP range of the modem/router?Can you post a HijackThis log?
thepoolhustlerman
Yes my Static IP (192.168.1.110) is outside the DHCP range (192.168.1.2-100). I already did try disabling UPNP on both modem and utorrent but still no result. Firon
Ah, McAfee is probably why you can't open the port. You'll want to go into the preferences and either disable any firewall-like function, or add exceptions to all the various functions in it. thepoolhustlerman
@FironActually I already uninstalled McAfee Firewall since I thought it also might be the problem but it's not. All there is left is McAfee Virus Scan. Should I uninstall all of McAfee Services? I remembered that I did successfully opened port w/ McAfee installed about a months ago, so that might not be the problem. Well I try to uninstall all of McAfee and see if there's any changes. Still downloading 0-5 kBps @nipun6188create your own thread if you want help and don't hijack someone else's topic.Edit: I do have Spybot: search and destroy installed, does it also probably causing problems? Switeck
I don't think Spybot acts as a software firewall...so it shouldn't hurt anything. Have you tried the 2nd link in my signature?
Firon
Spybot does not act as a firewall. But yes, I'd try removing McAfee altogether, as it still has various other features that can act as firewalls (network agent, proxy service).
thepoolhustlerman
@Switeckyes I already followed http://forum.utorrent.com/viewtopic.php?id=34259 . I have it set at 512kbps setting which is what I usually get. @FironOK, I will try to uninstall them see if solve the problem. Any recommendation to any good (free) Anti-Virus and Firewall that I can replace Mcafee. I'm afraid to surf w/o any antivirus software.
Firon
AVG is a good choice for an AV.Comodo firewall is a good firewall, though it's a little complex to configure. There's a configuration guide here. http://forum.utorrent.com/viewtopic.php?pid=292343#p292343
thepoolhustlerman
No effect after uninstalling all Mcafee service, still yellow icon and slow download speed. but one thing I notice is my upload speed got faster a bit (faster than my download speed, from 10-20kbps). is it probably my modem has firewalled? Firon
Is there any option in your modem to disable the router part and have it act strictly as a modem?

thepoolhustlerman
I really don't know it there's any but do you mean to enable bridge mode and turn off routing mode, there is one but I'm not so sure. Is there any settings that I should looked into the modem?@SwiteckNope, I don't have symetric DSL. I could usually upload upto 25kB/s. I did also try setting it to half of my DL speed 256kb/s and 384kb/s but I don't see any difference still slow DL speed and port not open. What setting do you suggest, should I go as low as 128kb/s?
