Problems Downloading large files

Hi

I am very new to bit torrents, and had a few questions I couldn't find answer to in the forum/FAQ.

I have 1500/256kB, Network Ok and my settings correct by most guides.

My problem is downloading larger files, ~1GB. I can't seem to get a decent speed on any files over about 100MB. Below this, and I can quickly connect, sustain 50-60kB/s within 10 mins of connection. With large files, I take a long time to connect to anybody, struggle to hold 4-5kB/s and eventually decide its time to go back to E-mule ;)

What I would like to know, is if this situation will improve over time as I upload more? or is there something else I need to do.

Thanks in advance

Hey,

I messed around with a few settings and thought that had fixed it. I managed to connect to somebody with great upload speed and was getting 120kB/s for ~30mins. Then they gone and now back to 5-10kB/s.

The torrent tracker is offline, I don't know if that has a lot to do with it? ...stops me from finding new peers or not?

Currently have Seeds (16)183, peers (15)317.

Anything obvious?

Chances are, you're dealing with large files that have chunksizes of 1-4 MB. Because you have to get a complete chunk before you can share anything, that can take awhile.

Worse, uploaders won't upload very much to you or very fast unless you are sharing back to them.

If I had to guess, I'd say you have everything set up correctly but may have upload slots set too high.

Leave them at 4 or even reduce them to 3 and check allow additional upload slots if <90% max speed.

Thanks guys. Switeck, thats exactly what my settings are, 3 uploads and additional on. I'll give the beta a go, will it continue my current torrents?

I know BT vary a lot in download speed, but I almost get a sine wave sometimes...even when downloading at 120kB/s last night, the speed would often periodically drop to 40-50kB/s before rising around. Same atm, varying between 10-20kB/s almost every 10-15seconds. Is this just to be expected with BT or could it be something else?
