James_D
Is TCP traffic on a well-known BitTorrent port (6881) throttled?* Your ISP possibly rate limits all downloads at port 6881. In our test, a TCP download on a BitTorrent port achieved at least 634 Kbps while a TCP download on a non-BitTorrent port achieved at least 1356 Kbps. You can find details here.Everything else is green.
Ultima
It can be. Considering the fact that it's a well-known BitTorrent port, why would you even care to use that port in the first place?
James_D
I don't use that port, I was just wondering if that could affect my overall torrent speed eventhough the port I'm using is 55693
Ultima
If you're not using the port, then there's no reason the port should affect your speeds. Or is there some miscommunication here...?
James_D
Nope, thats what I wanted to know. Was getting concerned since I saw it and wanted to know what it meant.
Switeck
Columbus Communication Jamaica Limited is probably trying to throttle BitTorrent traffic primarily by the "default" BitTorrent ports of 6881-6899...which fewer and fewer people use. They may also be throttling unknown/encrypted traffic that isn't recognized though.
