ady4um
Adding another column that displays relevant info just for seeding periods? I have read posts complaining about too many columns, and the current Remaining column is also displaying info just for dl'ing periods. People dl'ing and seeding several torrents would like to use *both* columns.I have already suggested to change the "Remaining" column behaviour, for the ETA behaviour. The same Remaining column could display the remaining size to download while dl'ing, and the remaining size to get to seeding goal (default general goal, or the one specified in the torrent properties if it was activated) for seeding. To avoid repeated questions about it, I would suggest to add the appropriate explanation to the faq, like the ETA explanation was. Moreover, I would suggest changing the font colour of the numbers in both columns. When in dl'ing mode, the numbers in both columns remains as usual. When in seeding status, both numbers change its colour to sth else. Someone could think of adding some icon, but there is already icons in the Name column, and there is a status column also. The colour change would just be an optional addition, the same way other "fancy" UI characteristics are (colour changing could be off by default). Also, changing the background of the columns is not so wise IMO, because the %Done column is already having that, and more-than-one background-changing could make it pointless. ady4um
@Firon, I read in the forum about similar (not the same) requests (not necessarily in the feature requests category). I couldn't find any kind of response or real arguments about this - not for nor against. Maybe they are there, somewhere. Some post are 3 years old.Generally speaking, I understand the devs are not obliged to explain every single decision, but maybe posting real arguments about why a request is not going to be added could save time to people like us, who had an idea, take the time to post it, and nothing happens (sometimes not even knowing if anyone who could potentially implement this has at least take a look at the post). Most of the feature request posts are just a presentation of an idea, and that's it. No answer, no arguments, not for, not against. Then, you find yourself rejecting requests in the announcement topics, where you just want bugs' reports and dumps, not new suggestions. So, you see, posting arguments actually improves ut and the forum, and saves all of us (users, mods and devs) time. So, if you are so kind, could you please post any kind of argument? If it is just a matter of devs priorities, is it possible we could see this in the future? Or there is any logic-based reason not to add this feature? If you can post the reasons against this, maybe somebody could present here better reasons that could convince you. Or maybe it will be the other way around. (also true in any other feature request's topic).I know, giving arguments to this topic could open debate, and others (or even yourself) would be posting even more, and spending even more time writing here. ) Well, that would be more productive than answering to the same issue again and again; don't you think so?To anyone answering with an argument, or pointing to some other post where people already debate this request, I will be very thankful. Firon
This one gets a no because I think it's a pretty useless column and I don't wanna add even more clutter to the column list.
ady4um
@Firon, With all due respect, I'm starting to think you are too busy to really read the posts.I suggested, instead of adding a new column, using the currently Remaining column, in the same way the ETA column functions today.During dl periods, the Remaining column will function as it is now, and during seeding periods, it will display the remaining size to ul to get to the seeding goal. Currently, the column is blank for seeding periods.People with monthly quotas is just 1 (of many) example of users that could be interested in this sorting. Moreover, a remaining size (to dl) would be also useful in the files tab (not cluttered, yet), where all the columns are related to "past" info (what already happened), but no column displays any kind of info about "future" info (what is going to happen). I suppose this column in files tab should be posted in a separated post. So, Firon, you can see that the job list would not be receiving another new column, but actually taking better advantage of a currently available column's space.About you thinking that info is useless, well, the fact is there are other people who *are* interested. Those users suggesting this kind of info in several posts for at least 3 years are a sample of them. I hope you understand that not everyone uses utorrent the same way. It is true though, that is not possible to supply/provide every user with every single option to customize. But if there are so many posts, during an extended period of time, with no other alternative, suggesting/requesting this info to be added somehow...Finally, I would like to point out that there are many kinds of info that appear in several portions of the ut UI (again, users use ut in different ways, and that's ok), but this particular info is not being displayed at all.Firon (and the devs), Please consider this topic again, together with the arguments. Also you may find other suggestions here in this topic that could be very useful to other aspects of the UI.Thanks in advance.
Firon
No offense, but you wrote way too much for something so trivial, but fine, you convinced me. You'll see Remaining change the way you asked, just not in 1.8.
ady4um
Fair enough. BTW, take a look at those long posts. That colour font thing I wrote about could be useful also for ETA.
thelittlefire
Well I must admit, I checked old tabs and saw I was mid-reply days ago... but I was also convinced by explaining it as a download/seeding thing implementation for the same column Thank you ady4um for not giving in to "no" and thanks always to the diligent staff. <3 Firon and DWK moderators Switeck Ultima and uTorrent staff alus and Ryan. Zaim7890
hi, Firon so it will be added to 1.7 and 1.8 or jus 1.7?thanks m8Edit: also is it possible to add the Dling for Columm to 1.7 as in 1.8?
Ultima
Neither. It'll come after 1.8.
thelittlefire
Well, 1.7 is dead development wise. In the highly unlikely event another exploit is found which affects stability of the client before 1.8 becomes stable, it MAY get a bump. However given the development in the thread for 1.8, that sounds highly unlikely.I wouldn't use 1.7 anymore if people PAID me. It's leaky like a sieve. Firon
1.7 won't ever get a new version.
Zaim7890
the reason im not using 1.8 is coz of the upload speed limit, only hav 96kbps ul speed, so when i want to dl i cannot only at 12kB/s which is Stupid. which is why that ul limited should be changed or removed, e.g. 5kB/s or less.when i want to dl faster i hav to put ul speed on 10 and then my net is extremely slow. DreadWingKnight
Don't set per-torrent limits. Such micromanaging causes more problems than it's worth.
Firon
The global upload cap required to get no capping whatsover is 6. Not 10.Per torrent is 4.
Zaim7890
oh i see, but globle i set to 10 and per torrent is 5 and speed didnt go above 12kB/s untill i put in 10 per torrent. not sure why that is then.
Firon
Because other peers will restrict how much they upload to you based on how much you upload to them, probably
Switeck
You may need to change uTorrent's other settings to get higher download speeds.
