nathy85 Posted August 3, 2008 Report Posted August 3, 2008 Hello,I have been looking through search engines and blogs and trying the same things over and over that have been suggested in trying to improve my upload speed, which is stuck at a ridiculously slow speed of 5kb/s. I have optimised all my settings in preferences in accordance with the advice and even downloaded the TCPIP patch, but to my dismay there has been no improvement whatsoever. I have run the speed test which says that my download speed is 2002kb/s and my upload speed is 190kb/s. I am not sure what other information I should give in this post that might enable someone to help me but I would appreciate some further advice that doesn't just involve tweeking the settings, as I have tried this already many times over to no avail. Thanks.
xXxJamxesyxXx Posted August 3, 2008 Report Posted August 3, 2008 when you open utorrent you will see a status bar on it with shows:DHT: | D: | U: and if you right click in the U: space, you will come up with a list of speeds which you can choose from their and it will change to that and hopefully get you and your downloads done faster and uploads done much quicker, then having it stuck on 5
nathy85 Posted August 3, 2008 Author Report Posted August 3, 2008 Hello Jamxesy,I tried your suggestion and it has bumped up the speed but only very slightly. What speed would you recommend choosing given that my bandwith is 190kbps? Should it be that if I choose 190 kb/s the upload speed should increase to that, because that's not happening. Thanks
Switeck Posted August 3, 2008 Report Posted August 3, 2008 Are the speed values you're posting kilobits/second or KiloBYTSE/second?Most bandwidth values are kilobits/second.
nathy85 Posted August 3, 2008 Author Report Posted August 3, 2008 Hi Switeck,The speed results are in kiloBITS per second. So I guess that would mean that 190 kiloBITS is 19 kiloBYTES right? Hmm...that is something I have overlooked lol. Does utorrent download in bits or bytes?
Switeck Posted August 3, 2008 Report Posted August 3, 2008 uTorrent's reported download and upload speeds are in KiloBYTES/second...unless you're running really fast...then it's in MegaBYTES/second. 190 kilobits/second upload bandwidth is about 19 KiloBYTES/second usable upload speed in uTorrent. In my speed guide (2nd link in my signature), the closest "fit" for your connection is the 192 kilobits/second upload one. It's pretty slow...but sadly so is your connection. You might recover a little bit more speed by turning off uTorrent's other features:DHT, Local Peer Discovery, UPnP, and Resolve IPs (found by right-clicking in PEERS window).
