brapakin
I am getting the same problems as most people in the forum. Slow speeds and my port is not open. I have followed the static ip and port opening instructions and still port is not open. i have went to speedtest.net (6500 kbps and 450 kbps) and i believe that all of my speed setting are set correctly.comprmt gives:IPv4 Address - 10.10.10.100Default Gateway - 10.10.10.1DHCP server - 10.10.10.1Dns server - 192.168.1.254I set static as 10.10.10.150When i go to whatismyipaddress.com it gives me 65.4.222.15can someone inform me of the differences in the ip addresses. I am not that educated in computers but learning fast.why are my numbers 10.10.... and not something like in the turtorial 192.168.1.1?Also since I believe my problem is in my port forwarding in my router why cant i just plug my computer directly into my modem and bypass these problems and download without the router? (or am i way off with this assumption?)
DescentJS
As long as you only have one computer, there is no reason you can't directly connect your computer to you modem.

GTHK
That's your IPa? That's an unusual one. You renewed it right? If you did, your modem is a router.
brapakin
like i said i'm knida new to the technical aspects of computers. that is the ipv4 address that comes up when in run a new command prompt (ipconfig) when connected directly to the modem.if it is a router i didn't know it but i don't think it is. it is a small silver motorola modem.not sure what u mean by "renew"?if it is a router then now what? i still have the problem. GTHK
Ok, when connected to the modem, use these in a command prompt:ipconfig /renewipconfig | find "IP Address"The second command will show only your IPa, post the first half.
brapakin
when i type in the second command nothing happens not even an error message. it just goes to a new line.
GTHK
You need to keep the casing of "IP Address".
brapakin
thank you for your patience but I have tried to type it in every way i can and even copy and paste your entry but nothing works.ipconfig | find "IP Address"ipconfig | find IP Addressipconfig | find "ip address"ipconfig | find ip addressfind "IP Address"and others...any other way to find it? GTHK
That's weird. Just do ipconfig /all and then find your connection, look for the line with "IP Address" in it.

GTHK
So that's your IP address while connected to the modem? The modem is also a router, you need to either bridge it or port forward it.
brapakin
i have read the bridge mode several times. let me make sure i understand it.step #1 - try to disable the NAT in my modem. i did this and i could not connect to the internet afterwordsstep #2 - make my connection type in my modem PPPoE it is already PPPoE. i changed it to Bridged Ethernet and i could not connect to the internet.step #3 - set up a new connction with new settings said connection was unsuccessfuldid i do this right b/c nothing i did seemed to work? GTHK
Well, once you change your modem to bridge mode, you need PPPoE in your router.
brapakin
i was able to port forward through my modem when directly connected to the modem. finally! when i hook up my router will i have to change anything?thank you for all your help. GTHK
Hmmm, you need to port forward your modem so that it forwards to your router, and then have your router forward to your computer. How does your modem forwarding work, by device or by IPa?
brapakin
im not sure how to answer that question. i just looked up my modem (motorola) on the portforward.com lst and followed instructions. then tested it through u torrent and it said the port is ok. and i now have the green circle.i never typed in and ip address during the process. GTHK
OK, as long as you have your router set for port forwarding, it should work. You may want to make another rule, except set to UDP instead of TCP, so that DHT can work.
brapakin
not sure i know what you mean. are u saying do this in my modem, router, or utorrent? and where would i set this?
GTHK
Well, does your modem have a both option? If it does, use that, otherwise, in the modem, use the same ports, but set UDP.
brapakin
ok i see now.i have been downloading for about 45 min. getting speeds of about 60-75 kbps now about 35 though (much better now that the port is open ie. 5-15 kbps). my friend has the same internet and gets 500-600 kbps. could this be in our different computers or just in the settings?any suggestions?
