BZFlagLEGOManiac Posted August 5, 2008 Report Posted August 5, 2008 The drove me nuts for several hours yesterday. It's been "resolved" now but I thought I'd post it in case anyone else has a similar problem. It has not happened since.I went to start uTorrent 1.8 and the installer came up.Now, it's possible that I inadvertantly clicked on the installer itself, in which case the results should be expected. Normally I start uTorrent from the quick launch bar, so I don't really think I started installer directly, but I can't be 100% sure any more.At any rate, I cancelled the installation via the X and started it from the quick launch bar and the installer came up again.I checked that the QL icon is in fact a shortcut pointing to ...program files\utorrent\utorrent.exe and not the installer that is sitting on my desktop.I actually went to ..program files\utorrent and started the utorrent executable directly and still got the installer.I decided to just let the installer run. It doesn't. One of two things eventually happens: either I get tired of waiting and deleted it from task manager, or I get an error message that says utorrent is already running. Thinking that I may be starting it twice, I used OPEN in the context menu: same result.I tried uninstalling uTorrent and re-installing it which appeared to work. When I started uTorrent the same thing happened. That puzzled me since uninstalling it should have allowed the installer to run again. Mind you, I never checked that the ...program files\utorrent directory had been removed so it's possible that it never truly uninstalled although my quick launch and desktop icons were removed.I tried running the uTorrent executable from Task Manager. Same thing.Rebooting the PC didn't help.I finally decided to just click the "cancel" button (instead of the X, as I usually do). The installer stopped and uTorrent started.I have not had the problem since.Bizarre.
Firon Posted August 5, 2008 Report Posted August 5, 2008 Cancel runs from where it is. That's why it worked for you.Are you on Vista? Vista is picky about installing to program files.
