msaugar Posted August 6, 2008 Report Posted August 6, 2008 Hi, I'm new to this and I have a question about disk space.SITUATION: I started downloading a torrent that is 12.5GB in size, and I had 25GB of free space on the drive. Now after 5 days of acquiring this torrent (i'm at 30%), I find that I have only 1GB remaining of free space on the hard drive. (laptop computer is running XP) QUESTION 1: What can I do to free-up some drive space, or how can I transfer this torrent process to another computer with a larger drive, without screwing up the download? QUESTION 2: It seems to be taking a long time to download and I don't want to lose the files that are partially done, so do these extra files go away after completing the download?
thelittlefire Posted August 6, 2008 Report Posted August 6, 2008 http://utorrent.com/migration_guide.php ... If you move the data. When you move the data (copy the files), you will need to in uTorrent, right click, advanced, set download location and CLICK on the folder holding your files. Then right click, start, and it will recheck, then start/continue downloading.Files don't go away after a download. http://dessent.net/btfaq/#what explains abit more about how bittorrent isn't a traditional p2p network.
Firon Posted August 6, 2008 Report Posted August 6, 2008 The torrent is only gonna take up 12.5GB. You can verify that by viewing the properties of the folder in explorer.Something else is eating space on your system. It could be something as simple as antivirus app doing something dumb and eating space in the temp folder.
