luislema
I've been using uTorrent for years and it always worked fine. Yesterday I installed Windows XP SP 3 and after restarting my pc the uTorrent port is now blocked for some reason, even though I have it open on my router. I have changed the port and I have deleted it and added it again in the port forwarding section of my router, I have also disabled my firewall, but it's still not working.I've tried with uTorrent 1.7.7 and 1.8I hope someone knows how to fix it. Thanks.
thelittlefire
Well, what firewall do you use? Only the Windows Firewall can be "disabled". The rest are kernel mode software and must be reinstalled.
luislema
I have McAfee, and I can disable it.
thelittlefire
Well, so starting from the beginning http://utorrent.com/setup_guide.php , and your router forwarding rules, and testing on http://slackware.com/torrents/ the peers don't make inbound connections to you?If you create a HiJackThis logfile and paste it above/below it may shine some light on something unexpected acting as a firewall? thelittlefire
You didn't answer the questions. You're running a local proxy? Turn off McAfee... verify nothing else is using that port. Like I mentioned, start from scratch.
Firon
Uninstall McAfee. You can't turn it off.
luislema
I am not using a local proxy. I have tried with different port numbers. There is the option to disable McAfee firewall. I have tried that too.http://forums.mcafeehelp.com/showthread.php?t=197107
GTHK
Except third party firewalls stay connected to your system even when disabled, uninstallation is the only way to be sure it's not causing problems, or if it's causing problems, to stop causing problems. Which it probably is.
Firon
It doesn't actually work. They don't remove their NDIS filters or anything. Uninstall it.
luislema
I uninstalled McAfee firewall, but the port is still blocked. That's what I am saying, the problem started after I installed Windows XP SP3. I have always used McAfee firewall and uTorrent with no problem.Do any of you have SP3 installed on your pc and uTorrent working fine?

DreadWingKnight
Pro on both, but it doesn't matter. SP3 itself isn't the problem.

Tomatosoup
For me port forwarding doesn't work anymore too. I know how to port-forward. I've done it so many times. But the µTorrent icon is usually yellow (with exclamation mark), sometimes red, and one time it did become green for a little while, then turned yellow again.I also have XP SP3 installed. Is there anyone out there who has a solution or knows what the problem is about?
thelittlefire
You follow / take a look at the stickies logfiles, or post it in your own thread. Most often problems are the result of software blocking the port...
Tomatosoup
I've read the stickies and the FAQ. I know a firewall could be blocking ports, but this is not the case! Even with Windows Firewall turned off ports are not being reached from the outside even though the port forwarding entries are entered into the router with the right (internal) IP-address. tonylung
I had the same problem. Installed SP3 and utorrent stopped working (tracker offline or socket something...)Just uninstall SP3 (ctrl panel, add/remove program), restart automatically and everything goes back to 'normal'. Changing half-open connection didn't work though.Yes, the problem is in the tcpip.sys file.
auch
I also got problems with sp3,its affected all my network, had blue screens using lan and allIf u wanna have sp3 I'd advice a fresh install after a format, then drivers over it and so on instead of a simple update
