the snare
I'm trying to download a 19.0GB file and it's fluctuates from 2.0kBs to 20.0Kbs download speed. I use two ISP's. I spend weekends at my parents where they have Charter and at home I have Comcast. I checked the guide and I see they are ok for the most part. If your ISP is the problem as far as I high speed is concerned you are stuck with the availability of what is offered in your area. Usually only one cable company is allowed to operate and sell their services within the same area. We can't get FIOS where we live, despite being very close the Boston, Verizon doesn't offer it in Boston and most of Boston's suburbs. Unless verizon throttles too.Does it help to seed other torrents while are trying to get (download) the one you want? Does that speed up your download speed? I know it's tit for tat, but should you keep seeding a torrent that you already have over a 1.0 ratio on? (that's share ratio right?) I'm wondering right now if should set in my queue settings 1 active torrent and 1 active download. Since on all my completed torrents I have I've already seeded them past 1.0. Firon
That torrent won't get very good speeds. Just isn't a good swarm.http://distribution.openoffice.org/p2p/Try a torrent from here.
Switeck
Is your upload speed equally crippled? (2-20)Is your current upload speed reaching and sustaining the upload speed max you told uTorrent to use?(If not, it signifies potentially a disaster somewhere.) the snare
Yes, it's using the speed I told it to. 40KBs for the upload on the 19GB file, I download some other torrents, that were only 500 megs they downloaded it under 2 days. Do you think I have a bad swarm too? Even with 4 seeds and 33 peers?
Switeck
I don't know just yet. What other settings are you using in uTorrent?(The ones shown by Speed Guide CTRL+G will do.)
the snare
settings in CTRL-G areUpload limit: 200kB/secConnections: 50Max active torrents: 1upload slots: 2connections (global) 75max active downloads: 1Firon sure seems to think it's bad, but why? Because there are too many peers?
Firon
There's almost no seeds and there really aren't even a lot of peers. It's a bottom-heavy torrent, so you're really not gonna get amazing speeds unless one of the peers happens to have an incredible connection. Switeck
Change your settings to:Upload limit: 40kB/secConnections: 50Max active torrents: 2upload slots: 4connections (global) 75max active downloads: 1I'm not sure you can upload faster than 40 KiloBYTES/second...so run with that for now.If those settings seem to work, raise upload speed by 5 at a time till download speed drops like a stone. Then lower upload speed back down at least 10 till download speed goes back up again. the snare
I downloaded 2 other 4.9GB files pretty easily, within 2 days, that had an even lesser swarm, only 3 or 4 seeds. This one is pretty huge I know.
Firon
You got lucky on those, that's why.
