VaMPiRiC_CRoW
Hi,First I have to say Thanks for making this great, fast, easy to use and on resources usage, and also because it is free! It will be possible to implement an option to run a program on uTorrent start?I like to run it with PeerGuardian or some other similar program...Regards
Klaus_1250
I like the request, though, two things:1) You should run Peerguardian at start-up. Peerguardian can protect you from trojans, attackers, virusses, etc as well. And anti-p2p-companies will still send packets when you are not using uTorrent. They won't do anything, except you may send out an ICMP-packet (depending on your firewall and portforwarding-method).2) It depends on which application you start, but, before starting, uTorrent should also check if the application is not already running. For now I only feel the need of PeerGuardian for Anti-P2P, maybe in the future I could use it for more... 2. Yep...

hofshi
I could use this feature as well.
Firon
batch files work wonders for stuff like this, there's no need to integrate this
VaMPiRiC_CRoW
batch files work wonders for stuff like this, there's no need to integrate this The problem is that you will have the command window open until you close it...Not to good... hofshi
you'll also like to change the icon for the batch file
Firon
Link to the batch file (which means save the .bat somewhere not on your desktop), then you can change the icon.
hofshi
is there a real reason not to implement this inside the client? there is already infrastructure to do stuff when a d/l completes, so this shouldn't really increase the client size, should it? foxyshadis
Everyone always brings up size and bloat, but ludde's an excellent coder who could probably write a full-featured web browser in 50k, ;p no amount of good features are going to significantly change utorrent's speed and size. You have to ask is whether it fits the philosophy of the client: size and speed of course, but usability and management too. (Especially the current betas.)Tying a peerguardian-type app closer into the client could be a very good idea. Since batch files exist it's definitely a low priority thing though. tumu
There is no need to duplicate what Windows already has. Use batch files, 'nuff said.
bleh
yeah I second this, µtorrent will never implement features you can do on your own with some ease.(and seriously, doesn't everyone know a bit of batch these days?)
hofshi
I don't think this is the right approach in every case. if the cost of implementation is negligible, and the effect of the implementation is that people will find µtorrent more convenient, then by all means, the feature should be implemented. If this is indeed the case, remains to be seen
splintax
I agree with foxyshadis. Why not add it? Personally I think it's a pretty useful idea for those that don't know batch. Apparently some people don't know how to create a directory to move utorrent.exe into, so it wouldn't surprise me.1) You should run Peerguardian at start-up. Peerguardian can protect you from trojans, attackers, virusses, etc as well. And anti-p2p-companies will still send packets when you are not using uTorrent. They won't do anything, except you may send out an ICMP-packet (depending on your firewall and portforwarding-method).Trojans, attackers and viruses? I doubt it. Most viruses (technically worms) are spread from other infected users who are usually in the very same IP ranges that are left unblocked. PG has no reason to block virus-infected users any more than regular false positive blocks. Also, what is this with anti-p2p organizations contacting you and you responding with an ICMP packet? What, they're pinging you? How do they get your IP in the first place, and why would they ping you anyway?
foxyshadis
yeah I second this, µtorrent will never implement features you can do on your own with some ease.(and seriously, doesn't everyone know a bit of batch these days?)One trip down the options panel shows how utterly, completely wrong that statement is. chaosblade
I definitly think this should be left to other programs. batch scripts, Samurize scripts, whatever scripts. There are alot of even more complex and customizable ways on launching programs in order.
