scorekeep Posted August 13, 2008 Report Posted August 13, 2008 I have searched for an option to disable the uTorrent IPv6 functionality to no avail. Is it possible to make uTorrent behave as if IPv6 were not present, even if there is working IPv6 connectivity ?(Ideally this would be something you could set on a default and per-torrent basis; There are some torrents I simply do not ever want to go out over IPv6 -- and I would think many others here would agree; Many IPv6 tunnel brokers publish physical address information in your network records, too).
Firon Posted August 13, 2008 Report Posted August 13, 2008 No, but in effect you're probably going to get IPv4 only.
scorekeep Posted August 13, 2008 Author Report Posted August 13, 2008 Why would that be ? Does the DHT not work on IPv6 yet ?While there are few IPv6-capable trackers right now (https://www.sixxs.net/tools/tracker/catalog/, for instance), I'm sure that'll change over time, too.If I were to want to track torrent habits of users and were to want reasonably accurate information about their name and whereabouts, IPv6-capable clients would be a GREAT way to do that -- all the Sixxs tunnels carry the information you want easily available. Granted, this is the paranoid version and the one people should not care about (since they would never, ever infringe copyrights with BitTorrent, anyway -- right ?), but it is a privacy issue
Firon Posted August 13, 2008 Report Posted August 13, 2008 Not every tunnel broker needs real names and whatnot to register. Hell, Teredo sure doesn't. neither did hexago, last time I used it.
scorekeep Posted August 13, 2008 Author Report Posted August 13, 2008 You are quite correct, not every broker required this information. Many, however, do. This isn't necessarily bad, of course Oh well, guess I am gonna have to firewall all BT-related IPv6 connections on the firewall machine.
