Im seeing the same thing as tcharp. Almost verbatim. Vista ultimate x64, 8 gigs of ram. utorrent doesnt show as using the memory, but as soon as I close it, the memory comes back. Never had the problem in 1.7.x.

Just wanted to add another user to the tally with the problem.

I have disabled the windows caching for both reads and writes. I would say this has solved the problem as memory use is holding at 14%, however I have only had the settings this way for an hour or so. I will keep an eye on things and let you know how it goes. So far, so good.

So the cache bypass works for you on x64 Vista?

This is what I need confirmation of.

In fact, I'd like to know if it works on 32bit Vista as well. And if it only works on admin or all user accounts.

In theory, it's supposed to work on all of them, as the API hasn't indicated otherwise. But sparse files are supposed to work too, and they don't...

I'm thinking the answer is yes for Vista Ultimate x64 anyway. It's running under an admin account. There are no other active accounts on this machine. After running pretty much all day I did not see the problem recur after changing those settings. I'm going to let this thing run tonight and check it out in the morning.

You need to at least check the "Disable Windows caching of disk writes" and "Disable Windows caching of disk reads" boxes. The other can be checked as well, but it is the Windows caching, when enabled, that seems to have the negative effects on my machine.

There seems to be many things cobbling up memory. The worst culprit is dwm, which can be disabled if you like. Outlook is another one if you leave it running, however since changing these settings on uTorrent I haven't found all 8gigs of my memory used up.

Same problem on XP x64:

If I stop all uploads (did not stop the download), it frees up the ram.

When restarting the uploads, it`s start counting down again.

(About 2 GB in about 30 minutes.)

Note that on 1st week after 1.8 release I have stated that the options dont do a thing on vista x64.

Now face it, 1.8 has memory problem on vista x64 period. I dont have time to debug for you so dont expect me putting process list or anything, if you want to trigger such a memory leak just seed a big file > 2GB over your intranet(or LAN) at full speed. I can even smell what bug you've just coded :D
