Stesco Posted August 14, 2008 Report Posted August 14, 2008 Hi guys,My problem is similar to some other threads on here but not quite the same.Whenever I connect to UTorrent I lose my internet connection after 1-2 mins altogether....it then re-connects and the same thing happens continously.I thought it was my router (Netgear) but I connected direct from my modem (cable) to the PC cutting out the router and using both Ethernet and USB cables ( not at the same time of course) the problem persisted.I then turned off my firewall (Mcafee) but no luck....same thing, in any event U/T has 'full access' according to the firewall settings.I also have a static Port set up on U/T..16658. I also tried using another program to D/L called BitComet but I had the same thing happen so it is obviously not restricted just to UTorrent.....although Limewire runs with no problems ?.I am running the latest version of U/T but this problem has not changed since the last version.I have a decent 20mb Cable connection running XP Pro service pack 2.Please do not ask me to 'search FaQ etc' as I have spent the last 3 days searching to no avail.Any help anyone can offer would be very much appreciated guys.
DreadWingKnight Posted August 14, 2008 Report Posted August 14, 2008 I then turned off my firewall (Mcafee) but no luck....same thing,Because turning off doesn't necessarily stop its interference. you MUST uninstall to test this with software firewalls like that.http://forum.utorrent.com/viewtopic.php?id=15992
Switeck Posted August 14, 2008 Report Posted August 14, 2008 "20gb Cable connection"Doesn't exist...yet. Perhaps you are using bad settings in uTorrent as well?Try the 2nd link in my signature, and note settings are based on your connection's sustainable UPLOAD max.
Chryss Posted August 14, 2008 Report Posted August 14, 2008 20gb cable? Lord I wish. In any case, I had this problem for quite some time. Turned out to be a combination of things for me. #1 my router (garbage Linksys) and #2 a problem with my tcp/ip config. Make sure your settings are right for your connection (i.e. MTU).Check here: http://www.speedguide.net/ and try their tcp/ip analyzer
carrotflower Posted August 15, 2008 Report Posted August 15, 2008 I'm having this problem as well, only after updating to uTorrent 1.8. Same settings as before updating.
Firon Posted August 15, 2008 Report Posted August 15, 2008 http://forum.utorrent.com/viewtopic.php?id=15992#p258231
Stesco Posted August 15, 2008 Author Report Posted August 15, 2008 OK OK a slight slip of the 'pen' with my 20gb connection !! Thanx for all suggestions peeps.
Switeck Posted August 15, 2008 Report Posted August 15, 2008 Even if you have a 20 megabits/second download cable connection, you almost certainly should NOT use any settings higher than 2 megabits/second in Speed Guide (CTRL+G) or the 2nd link of my signature.
Stesco Posted August 19, 2008 Author Report Posted August 19, 2008 Ain't no further on with this , I tried using BitLord as well as BitComet to see if they worked but same thing happens, keep losing my internet connection and then it re-connects a couple of minutes later.....no matter if I am going through my Router or not.I haven't tried un-installing my firewall (Mcafee) yet, and I'm really loath to to be honest cos its my AV as well....do you really think that could be the problem, because, as I said, U/T has 'full access' in firewall program permissions ?.If there is no other answer I suppose I will have to
Switeck Posted August 19, 2008 Report Posted August 19, 2008 Have you tried HijackThis! and Process Explorer to see if there's unwanted programs on your computer possibly interfering?1st link in my signature tells more on that...

Firon Posted August 19, 2008 Report Posted August 19, 2008 Well, lower net.max_halfopen to 8 or less, connect to your modem, and give uninstalling McAfee a try. If it fails, you can always reinstall McAfee.
