yongjie222 Posted August 17, 2008 Report Posted August 17, 2008 Hi, i am currently experiencing low download speed in my torrent , i tested my max download speed it is 7839kbps and i have done the needed settings in the preferences, i have 93(467) seeds 58(1268) peers thats quite a lot of seeds but why am i having such low speeds? Sometimes it can go up till 40+ kB/s but only for like 10s then it will go back to between 4kB/s and 12kB/s. Anyone knows what is happening? I urned off firewall and portforwarded properly. Can anyone help me please?
Switeck Posted August 17, 2008 Report Posted August 17, 2008 It could be bad settings for your connection...Please tell us what settings you're using and speed of your connection. If that's not the problem, knowing this will help us decide what to try next.Incidentally your ISP throttles the HECK out of BitTorrent traffic, so that might be the problem too.
yongjie222 Posted August 18, 2008 Author Report Posted August 18, 2008 i did a speed test and it says 7839kpbs then i used 10Mbit connection for utorrent , anything thing is wrong?
Ultima Posted August 18, 2008 Report Posted August 18, 2008 UPLOAD rate. Besides which, you've grossly overestimated the speed test results. You're supposed to round down, not up. As Switeck mentioned, your ISP is indeed known to throttle BitTorrent traffic.
Switeck Posted August 18, 2008 Report Posted August 18, 2008 No, even your download isn't 10 megabits/second.And Speed Guide bases its settings off your max sustainable UPLOAD.In your case, it's probably 640 kilobits/second at most...maybe even as low as 256 kilobits/second.
yongjie222 Posted September 7, 2008 Author Report Posted September 7, 2008 Hi, i've been using utorrent for like 1year with around 20+kB/s per torrent , i know thats slow but its bearable until now i downloaded a torrent and it hast 7000+ seeds and 32000+ peers . I connected with 13seeds and 40peers but im getting only 10kB/s and below download speeds. I saw people on the comments saying like " Please seed , im around 200kB/s " , how do they get such high speeds? I have done a speed test and the results are download speed : 7786kbps and upload speed : 231 kbps . I selected the 256k connected on the speed guide , i think thats the nearest but im still getting very low speeds . I hope anyone would give me some advise on what to do , like doing the correct settings. I've searched for some guides , i did the connection limit patch for XP.Help would be greatly appreciated , thanks.
DreadWingKnight Posted September 7, 2008 Report Posted September 7, 2008 Take the next one below 256k on the speed guide.
Switeck Posted September 7, 2008 Report Posted September 7, 2008 Try the 2nd link in my signature for alternate uTorrent settings based on your max sustainable upload speeds.
yongjie222 Posted September 8, 2008 Author Report Posted September 8, 2008 Switec, i don't understand what that guide means , sorry would you mind explain to me a little bit more?
thelittlefire Posted September 8, 2008 Report Posted September 8, 2008 Look across from 224 Kbit/sec . Change the Preferences for those values of connections global / per torrent active slots etc.
Switeck Posted September 8, 2008 Report Posted September 8, 2008 Maxonline ISP in Singapore is very hostile towards BitTorrent...or even any outgoing international traffic. Don't be surprised if you can't seed worth crap, and likewise this will hurt your download speeds from other peers -- because peers don't like giving a lot of their upload and getting little to nothing back.Example of how to use my chart:http://forum.utorrent.com/viewtopic.php?pid=337049#p337049
yongjie222 Posted September 8, 2008 Author Report Posted September 8, 2008 @Switeck , thanks for the guide however i did the settings but i don't see any improvement on the speed, still stuck at 10~12kB/s sometimes even below that.I wonder why other people get such high speeds like 200kB/s ? I neven been on that speed before...
Switeck Posted September 8, 2008 Report Posted September 8, 2008 I already said...your ISP hates you, though in my last post I did not put it so bluntly.Other ISPs think better of their customers, instead of seeing them as indentured servants...thus other people get better speeds. You too must consider what your upload is doing in uTorrent if you are to have any luck at all solving your problems. If you can't upload...other peers become VERY reluctant to upload to you.BitTorrent lives, breathes, and DIES by how well it can upload.
yongjie222 Posted September 9, 2008 Author Report Posted September 9, 2008 Is there really no more way to solve that problem? I dont see why my ISP should hate me? I've using it for 5years lol. People can complete the 3.39GB in hours mine already for almost a week ouch.
