himalayasplaya
Hey guys,I will be using Comcast cable internet and a Linksys WRT54g router. I am trying to set up the network so that I can get the max speeds out of uTorrent without it slowing down generic surfing. I was googling online and found out that if you dont set this up properly then your utorrent will be operating at high latency and wont allow you to surf at high speeds anymore. I would like to avoid this, and be able to get the max speeds out of utorrent without sacrificing my surfing speeds.I have heard of Cfos that does this. However, I'd like to keep the programs involved to none if possible. Does anyone know how to set the settings on my WRT54g for this. Worst case scenario ill get Cfos. Switeck
Have you looked at 3rd party firmwares for that router?Tomato is popular, but I don't know if that particular router model is supported.uTorrent's settings need to match your connection regardless of what QoS method you end up using. 2nd link in my signature for that. Ultima
We'll need to know what version of the router you're using. If you're not sure, tell us the specific serial number.
hermanm
Hopefully, you got the GL model which allows to you flash it with Tomato:http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Linksys_WRT54G_seriesYou still need to revise the TIME_WAIT to something low like 120 seconds so it doesn't hog up all your max connections. You can easily hit the 1,000 connection limit if you leave TIME WAIT with the default value. And a high value will cause problems. I invested $60 in a WRT54GL and its the best invest I've made for networking equipment.
Ultima
Time Wait is 60 by default in Tomato... At least that's the value I had after an nvram clear.
hermanm
Mine is 600. Maybe there was a firmware update? I haven't kept up since installing Tomato firmware months ago.
