utree
It is fixed [bandaide] with net half open at 4 and one or two other adjustments..which still leaves me not at my optimum speed but my browser works..When I get my new router and find out my final speed I will prolly reformat just to make 1.7 work again.thanks guys =)
Firon
The half-open limit has no impact on download speed.
utree
I understand that..What I was complaining about was my browser turning to crap..Half Open fixed that problem.. I continue to complain about the crap speeds..Update your scripts man!
Switeck
Is your upload speeds in uTorrent reaching and sustaining the max upload speed you told uTorrent to use?Done any web (GOOGLE!) searches and asked locally if your ISP has started crippling BitTorrent traffic in any way? utree
Swi -No Sir. I do not reach max upload even if I set it way past. fastest is about 200k and downloading doesnt go past 1mb.I know its only my computer because my laptop with 1.7 hits 500k on the upload no problem. Same with my old raid drive. and both max out on the download..

utree
I updated to the new beta. I set all settings to default. I changed my net half open to 4.I downloaded http://releases.ubuntu.com/releases/8.04/ubuntu-8.04.1-desktop-i386.iso.torrentI hit my 2.4mB/s behind my router without lagging my internet.I read all these old posts and alot of posts on the internet about patching your tcp sys and net half open [to numbers of like 200] on all versions of windows except sp3.. nobody says anything.. Switeck
"I set all settings to default."Default settings are bad.But I give up.There's probably something obscure and different about your computer that only it has problems.Whether it's a software firewall, virus, or media player indexing everything you're downloading...I haven't a clue at this point. deanarue
"Well fix it!1st link in my signature."this is sweet, nice response! I too have this issue, have tried to "fix it!" Read these forums and guides, over and over. You may not like it , but 1.8 is the issue. As soon as the dl speeds hit 30 browsing is nil. No matter what the settings. If switeck is tired of trying to help people, maybe they should step down as moderator.Go ahead, use our power and bann me, with responses like that , what helpful advice could I expect?I would like to thank the people who DO work hard to help us lowly users. DreadWingKnight
Well, given the number of posts you have, and the noticeable lack of information you've provided to troubleshoot, I am forced to assume that you did NOT actually follow the troubleshooting guide. It specifically requests information that you have NOT provided.1.8 isn't the issue. splicerd
I'm having the same problem. My browsing speeds are crippled when 1.8 is running. And even when I close the application. A restart is the only way to restore normality. Everything worked flawlessly with 1.7 and previously with Azureus. My seeding and leeching speeds are fine. My firewall and router settings haven't changed in years, so there's no reason for me to suspect them.I'm running on a decent machine:Sony Vaio VCG-RA828GDual P4's 3.6GHz2MB RAMI use Firefox 3.0.1 almost exclusively. I have a 20Mb symmetrical connection, hence my traffic is measured in Terabytes (see my Demonoid profile). Here is the log from HijackThis, if anyone's interested:Logfile of Trend Micro HijackThis v2.0.2Scan saved at 8:32:05 PM, on 9/1/2008Platform: Windows XP SP3 (WinNT 5.01.2600)MSIE: Internet Explorer v7.00 (7.00.6000.16705)Boot mode: NormalRunning processes:D:\WINDOWS\System32\smss.exeD:\WINDOWS\system32\winlogon.exeD:\WINDOWS\system32\services.exeD:\WINDOWS\system32\lsass.exeD:\WINDOWS\system32\Ati2evxx.exeD:\WINDOWS\system32\svchost.exeD:\WINDOWS\System32\svchost.exeD:\WINDOWS\system32\spoolsv.exeD:\WINDOWS\system32\Ati2evxx.exeD:\PROGRA~1\AVG\AVG8\avgwdsvc.exeD:\Program Files\Bonjour\mDNSResponder.exeD:\Program Files\COMODO\Firewall\cmdagent.exeD:\WINDOWS\system32\inetsrv\inetinfo.exeD:\Program Files\Nero\Nero8\InCD\InCDsrv.exeD:\WINDOWS\System32\svchost.exeD:\PROGRA~1\AVG\AVG8\avgam.exeD:\PROGRA~1\AVG\AVG8\avgrsx.exeD:\PROGRA~1\AVG\AVG8\avgnsx.exeD:\WINDOWS\Explorer.EXED:\WINDOWS\System32\svchost.exeD:\WINDOWS\system32\svchost.exeD:\Program Files\Nero\Nero8\InCD\InCD.exeD:\WINDOWS\SOUNDMAN.EXED:\WINDOWS\ALCWZRD.EXED:\Program Files\COMODO\Firewall\cfp.exeD:\Program Files\HP\HP Software Update\HPWuSchd2.exeD:\PROGRA~1\AVG\AVG8\avgtray.exeD:\Program Files\Adobe\Acrobat 8.0\Acrobat\Acrotray.exeC:\Program Files\SONY\sHotKey\sHotKey.exeD:\Program Files\Common Files\Macrovision Shared\FLEXnet Publisher\FNPLicensingService.exeD:\Program Files\Windows Live\Messenger\msnmsgr.exeD:\WINDOWS\System32\svchost.exeD:\WINDOWS\System32\visualtasktips.exeD:\WINDOWS\system32\ultdrvmon.exeD:\WINDOWS\System32\topdesk.exeD:\Users\Dan\Application Data\LClock\lclock.exeD:\Program Files\Windows Sidebar\sidebar.exeD:\WINDOWS\system32\ctfmon.exeD:\Program Files\No-IP\DUC20.exeD:\Program Files\Windows Sidebar\sidebar.exeD:\Program Files\Mozilla Firefox\firefox.exeD:\Users\Dan\Desktop\HiJackThis.exeR1 - Switeck
Try reducing global and per-torrent max connections to 100 or less.Reduce half open max in uTorrent to 1-4.Disable DHT, LPD, UPnP, and Resolve IPs....and try the latest uTorrent v1.8.1 release. splicerd
Thanks for the advice, Switeck.I've tried all of what you've suggested and have had mixed results.I'm going to poke around with the settings for a few more days.EDIT 9/8/08:The new build (12083) seems to have fixed everything. extremepilot
Same problem over here. Fixed by downloading latest beta build 12183. My download speeds would easily max out, but when I have one torrent with less than 20 seeds and peers, I could not surf at all. Upload speed is limited to under half my maximum. Oh well, just a bug in the program.Good thing utorrent has awesome staff and developers
Firon
It wasn't quite a bug with utorrent, more a combination of issues with the Windows networking stack and how some socket calls didn't behave the way we thought they did.In any case, 12183 definitively has it fixed. utorrent will -never- exceed the half-open limit now. Switeck
utorrent will -never- exceed the half-open limit now.More like uTorrent will never make more half open connections if it is over the limit.uTorrent should only be over the limit if you reduce half open connection max below current half open connections active. And that will correct itself within typically less than half a minute.
Ultima
In that case, it would be even more accurate to say that µTorrent won't attempt to open another connection when it's at or over the half-open connection limit
