matias Posted January 5, 2006 Report Posted January 5, 2006 I don't like default .torrent filetype icon so everytime that µTorrent loses association with that files and i press "associate with .torrent files" the default icon returns.Would be good to have something that whenever i press "associate with .torrent files" search in some default directory for a "filetype.ico" (or something like that) and put it as default icon for .torrent files. What do you think?
Redleer Posted January 6, 2006 Report Posted January 6, 2006 you can change your icon any time you want to. just go to filetypes and change
matias Posted January 6, 2006 Author Report Posted January 6, 2006 you can change your icon any time you want to. just go to filetypes and changeYes, i know that ... but would be good if i don't have to do it everytime
Ultima Posted January 6, 2006 Report Posted January 6, 2006 I think matias already knows that =|He's saying that µTorrent should allow the user to select an icon for torrent files by default (so that one would never have to see the generic file icon with the application icon pasted on top).
1c3d0g Posted January 6, 2006 Report Posted January 6, 2006 You can do this in Windows with the Folder Options menu I believe... :|
Frostmourne Posted January 6, 2006 Report Posted January 6, 2006 I was about to make a similiar feature request, I was going to say utorrent should include a default icon for .torrent files in the executable, so when associating torrent files you will at least have a nicer icon then the generic one Windows makes. IMO it would be beneficial to have utorrent override the icon if a torrent.ico file is placed in the same directory as the executable, since that is standard behavior with a lot of applications and it would be like the theming options we have now, such as placing a tray.ico file to replace the system tray icon.
matias Posted January 6, 2006 Author Report Posted January 6, 2006 @Ultima: correct, that's the idea@Frostmourne: that was exactly what had in mind
foxyshadis Posted January 6, 2006 Report Posted January 6, 2006 I think uTorrent will set it to main.ico if it exists in the profile folder. I've never had to change the icon through several BitComet takeovers, and I just tried again to make sure.
chaosblade Posted January 6, 2006 Report Posted January 6, 2006 I suggested a similer thing awhile ago. Like main.ico and tray.ico, have filetype.ico, which is set when you click "Associate uTorrent With .Torrents".

chaosblade Posted January 7, 2006 Report Posted January 7, 2006 No, uTorrent does not change the filetype icon at all.
Ultima Posted January 7, 2006 Report Posted January 7, 2006 Yep. Windows, as I said, pastes the µTorrent icon onto the generic file icon, and uses that as the torrent icon.
1c3d0g Posted January 7, 2006 Report Posted January 7, 2006 That's why I said 8 posts above...use the Windows thingy to control the file-type icon. It's not like you're going to change it to a new icon every time, right? :/
splintax Posted January 7, 2006 Report Posted January 7, 2006 And Redleer mentioned it even earlier. Yes, you can do it through Windows, and that's how you have to do it right now. But the default icon is crap, and it would be nice for µT to set up the icon for you when you associate it with .torrents, IMO.
garfield1415 Posted October 30, 2008 Report Posted October 30, 2008 It is entirely possible i have found the way of changing the icon for .torrents filesfirst download from brothersoft.com website IMAGE2ICONTHIS DOWNLOAD IS FREE SO NOTHING ELSE IS REQUIRED?then create some icons or download them from this site SIMPLE-XP-ICONS orNICER-VISTA-ICONSto change the look of the icons you will need to do the following?1) PRESS START > SETTINGS > CONTROL PANEL > FOLDER OPTIONS2) Then click on "FILE TYPES" in the tabs on the tob of the box and find in the extensions "TORRENT" (give it a single click this will highlight it)3) Press the ADVANCED button this will open the final window called "EDIT FILE TYPE" and it there is a part to change the icon picture and there you have it?
Ultima Posted October 30, 2008 Report Posted October 30, 2008 Or you can use the %appdata%\uTorrent\maindoc.ico functionality built into µTorrent since 1.7.x. Yes, that means this feature has technically been implemented already.
