cmm82 Posted August 20, 2008 Report Posted August 20, 2008 Hi, i'm new to Utorrent and I was just wondering the best settings to have. I am using a router and currently I get great download speeds but my upload speeds are crap. I was wondering what the best settings were for the following. Global max number of connections: mine is currently set at 950.Max number of connections peers per torrent: mine is set at 125Lastly number of upload slots per torrent: is 50also use additional upload slots if upload speed <90%Are there any other settings better than these?
Switeck Posted August 20, 2008 Report Posted August 20, 2008 Those settings are terrible for your connection.Try the 2nd link in my signature. It gives suggested settings for uTorrent based on your max sustainable UPLOAD speed.I am reasonably certain your line cannot sustain upload speeds higher than 200 KiloBYTES/second (2 megabits/second upload)...and may only have 1/20th that!Telling uTorrent to upload faster than your line will let it...just makes uTorrent upload and download slower.
cmm82 Posted August 21, 2008 Author Report Posted August 21, 2008 My problem isn't download speed. I can download great speeds at least up to 100kb/s+ it's the upload speeds i'm having issues with. I've read our second link which you've kindly left and I'm grateful for it but i'm not understanding it very well. When I did my speed test when I first got Utorrent I got an avg speed of 2352 kb/s download and 566kb/s upload. I'm not understanding that chart you left LOL! I hate to say it but i'm a little slow. Could you explain it to me possibly with the chart in this message. I know if i get an explanation on how to do the calculations I can do this.I should probably also mention that I get my cable internet through a router.
Switeck Posted August 21, 2008 Report Posted August 21, 2008 566kb/s upload is close enough to 512 kilobits/second upload speed on my chart:Max upload speed: 47 KiloBYTES/secondGlobal max number of connections: 100Max number of connections peers per torrent: 40Number of upload slots per torrent: 4Max active torrents (seeding + downloading): 4Max downloading torrents: 2 (you could make this 3 if you want without problems)With your upload being higher than 512 kilobits/second, you could raise uTorrent's max upload speed possibly as high as 60 KiloBYTES/second...possibly only used as alternate upload rate (while seeding).
cmm82 Posted August 21, 2008 Author Report Posted August 21, 2008 Thank you, you are a god LOL! so basically I just type this stuff in.
Switeck Posted August 21, 2008 Report Posted August 21, 2008 Just enter them into uTorrent, in the right menus. Most of it is on the BitTorrent page of Preferences.
