Black_Knight17 Posted August 21, 2008 Report Posted August 21, 2008 I already followed all the instructions on portforward.com....setting up a static ip and open my port on my listed router...but still the utorrent icon is still not turning green and when i ran the test it also says that my port is not open... i don't knw why...can anybody help?....i already spent a whole day doing this...Windows Xp service pack 3Zyxel Prestige 600windows firewallavg antivirus
ghot Posted August 21, 2008 Report Posted August 21, 2008 I gave up on the static IP thing I just disabled the router firewall and use a good inbound AND outbound SOFTWARE firewall and only open it to UTorrent when I'm actually using it. Also I found that u need to port forward and/or open software firewall BEFORE you even open UT 1.8
Black_Knight17 Posted August 21, 2008 Author Report Posted August 21, 2008 but it's so frustating....i really used an entire day on this......even called my isp for the dns server addresses...and now not even the utorrent open port checking tool says its open....i don't knw why...i followed the instructions on portforward.com word by word
ghot Posted August 21, 2008 Report Posted August 21, 2008 I have one of those disagreeable routers too...so I just logged on to it and disabled the damn router firewall.....ZONEALARM (free version is simple to use and works perfectly)Get the latest free version and set it like this....when u WANT to UTorrent turn all the red X's for Utorrent to green checkmarks and you'll be fine...when your finished set them back to red X'sLastly do NOT even open UTorrent at all (not even have the icon in the tray) until u disable your router firewall and give Utorrent 4 green checks in Zonealarm.....THEN open UTorrent and in less than 1-2 mins after dropping a torrent into the upper window you will get a green check at the bottom of UTorrentAlso when you finished with Utorrent turn your router firewall back on
Ultima Posted August 21, 2008 Report Posted August 21, 2008 ZA Free isn't that great a firewall. Comodo (config) does better.
ghot Posted August 21, 2008 Report Posted August 21, 2008 You use what YOU want Ill use what I want Im 51 years old and have worked on comps for 30 years son......Comodo is good also but if you set the free ZA up properly it may as well be concrete wall ^^ In 8 years I've had no infections not one ^^
Ultima Posted August 21, 2008 Report Posted August 21, 2008 You use what YOU want Ill use what I want*shrug* I suppose I can say the same to you then... I'm only voicing my suggestions as you are.ZA is known to be very problematic with uT for many users, and this has been proven time and time again -- even in the last few days alone. There's nothing wrong with my offering an alternative for that, is there?
Switeck Posted August 21, 2008 Report Posted August 21, 2008 Zone Alarm has a long history of being bad, untrustworthy software:http://forum.utorrent.com/viewtopic.php?pid=271767#p271767
