wyveryx Posted August 22, 2008 Report Posted August 22, 2008 Ok so I installed Vista Ultimate 64 w/Sp1 Thought it might be fun to try something new, unfortunately i lost my boot to my trustworthy XP 64 ugh... Anyways, I am trying to download something and I realize that my sys is either suffering from the worst case of herpies in the world or it's got a port problem.i set up a static IP with my XP utorrent, which was with 1.8 and had no problems. So i thought i should check the settings with Vista. I still have the static IP through my router. I even checked for active listening ports to set a new port in the router. Nope, that didn't work. So, here I am beggin for help.I am using a Belkin Wireless G F5D7231-4.I am at my wits end with this, I got plenty of seeds and peers and I have given up on "fiddling" with shit I ought not to fiddle with lol.So while my downloads are screaming at a whole 3.6 KB/s I am gonna hit the hay and wake up some time next week to see if it's finished.Again I am using Belking Wireless G F5D7231-4Vista Ultimate 64bit w/SP1Help me if you can thanks in advance
Switeck Posted August 22, 2008 Report Posted August 22, 2008 You're on 56k dial-up and trying to use uTorrent?(What ISP and what speed is your connection?)Belkin PLUS Wireless = you MUST use very conservative settings!Global and Per-Torrent MAX connections probably needs to be no higher than 60!Disable some of the extra features in uTorrent...to make it slightly harder to detect:DHT, Local Peer Discovery, UPnP, and Resolve IPs.(Leave Peer Exchange enabled for now.)Set outgoing encryption to Forced...and see if enabling/disabling incoming legacy (unencrypted) connections seems better/worse.Test half open connection limit set to 8, 4, 1, and even 0 if you're not firewalled.NOTE: While set to 0, uTorrent quits making new connections. Sometimes incoming connections still arrive, so you CAN get new connections but that slows down to 0 as well after a few hours/days.My best results seem to be when half open is set to 1.You also need to lower upload speed to probably no higher than 100 KiloBYTES/second...maybe even as low as 40 KiloBYTES/second. This depends on the speed of your connection...sustained upload speed is FAR more important than rare peak upload speeds!
wyveryx Posted August 22, 2008 Author Report Posted August 22, 2008 Hi SwiteckActually I am using Comcast cable. Here is a recent speed test from Speakeasy using the Seattle Server.Download Speed: 26900 kbps (3362.5 KB/sec transfer rate)Upload Speed: 2057 kbps (257.1 KB/sec transfer rate)Before I make any changes to uTorrent I would like to ask if the settings you suggested were for dial up?According to Comcast I'm set up with the 8mb package, thanks again Edit: I should also add that the port that I opened is not being detected as so from the uTorrent port checker. And I am not using the wireless to connect I am using the ethernet cable, just wanted to give you the model number of the router
Switeck Posted August 23, 2008 Report Posted August 23, 2008 Actually, the settings are for ComCast. And you really only have probably the 2 megabits/second package as far as uTorrent's upload is concerned. Try the 2, 1.5, or 1 megabits/second settings on the settings chart in the 2nd link in my signature. And then reduce max connections both per-torrent and global to 60.
wyveryx Posted August 23, 2008 Author Report Posted August 23, 2008 Hey again SwiteckI implemented the suggestions from your 2nd line in your sig and also applied the max cons to 60. But still having issues. However I am still having issues, with the port not working, and I think that this might be a major problem. I have tried the walkthroughs on portforwarding and have also set my IP to a static, but when I test my port using uTorrent it is still showing that it does not appear to be open. Is there a setting in Vista 64 firewall that I am missing?again, thanks for your help
Switeck Posted August 23, 2008 Report Posted August 23, 2008 I have NO clue about Vista 64's firewall. If you trust your router's hardware firewall, you could try disabling Vista's firewall for awhile.(Your router better have ONLY uTorrent's incoming port forwarded if you do that. )
wyveryx Posted August 23, 2008 Author Report Posted August 23, 2008 i'll give that a shot, I'm pretty confident in my router. That and with my anti-virus i should be cool to give it a shot
