amrawaonnet Posted August 22, 2008 Report Posted August 22, 2008 hi therei used to check the option " pre-allocate all files " to help me saving time and know what's remaining space in my disk to plan another downloads, and also to save my disk health through reducing read/write times the problem is recently i've updated from 1.7.7 to 1.8 and this option dosen't work anymore. It dosen't allocate anyting at start and while i'm downloading the disk space keeps shrinking ,indicates that the writing is in progress , as u know so , what to do ? thnx in advance
DreadWingKnight Posted August 22, 2008 Report Posted August 22, 2008 disable sparse files in advanced preferences.
amrawaonnet Posted August 23, 2008 Author Report Posted August 23, 2008 yah , that worked nice for me , thnx for ur time and consideration if it wasn't too much to ask, what is "sparse files" ?
thelittlefire Posted August 23, 2008 Report Posted August 23, 2008 Sparse files c/o Microsoft ... is an option which was turned on by default in 1.8 which allows you to if you choose, not write all the bits at once, only the bits you download successfully. It was supposed to help with large read/write times without keeping your OS in the dark as to how large the file will eventually be. (If you Properties on it, you will see "size" and "size on disk")
