Cannot seed/upload......PLEASE HELP -- dual router setup

OK, techies.

OS = WinXP Pro -- I run a Toshiba PCX2600 cable modem feeding into a VOIP phone router Linksys RT31P2 feeding into a Linksys wireless router BEWFW11S4. My entire network is static and has functioned properly for years with this configuration. Except.......

I've read the setup guide AND searched the troubleshooting threads. I've also been to portforward.com and followed the instructions for my routers to the letter.

However, when I go to the uTorrent port checker, it says port 48471 is not open.

I can download fine, but I'd like to able to share and also not get banned from a member site I belong to. My sharing ratio is horrible as I can only upload while I am downloading.

Any insight into this problem would be appreciated.

Cox Cable is disrupting BitTorrent traffic in the same way as ComCast is.

The moment you go from downloading to seeding, Cox disconnects every peer connection it can identify.

Forced Encryption + disable legacy traffic is an absolute minimum to fight that...and probably will only help marginally.

You will probably also need to disable:

DHT, LPD, UPnP, and Resolve IPs.

Test also disabling Peer Exchange.

Also test different half open limits, especially 0 and 1. There's no point in going higher than 8...as that level of activity is easier to spot.

Where are all these settings? I only found a couple of them in preferences.

I am running version 1.8

UPnP and NAT-PMP both are under the Connection menu.

DHT (Don't ask...it's a long name :P), LPD (Local Peer Discovery), and PEX (Peer Exchange) are all under the BitTorrent menu.

Protocol Encryption is also under the BitTorrent menu, just below the DHT, LPD, and PEX. Note the difference between incoming and outgoing. Incoming encryption cannot be disabled, but if you're firewalled...that doesn't matter because you wouldn't get any incoming.

net.max_halfopen is in advanced settings. Normally, it's set to 8. Setting it to 0 is ONLY advisable for part of the time AND you cannot be firewalled or you'll quit getting connections.

Resolve IPs is accessed by right-clicking in the bottom PEERS window.

  • 4 weeks later...

I had Windows Firewall turned on and that was why even my port was forwarded in the router, it still didn't work.

Anyway, I added my port 54668 with TCP and UDP into windows firewall and i still cannot upload. Even uTorrent speed guide says that port 54668 is appear to open.

Then I disabled Windows Firewall and I was able to upload. So yeah, turn off Windows Firewall while uploading then turn it back on.
