Hello, this problem i have is not uTorrent specific. It's a problem i have since a few weeks with majority of the torrent clients out there. The problem can be best described as random crashes (which causes my system to halt immediately) whenever i have a torrent client running.

It occur under various system load situation and the crashes appear more frequent when there are quit some torrent files open (more than 8).

Reason i post this here is because uTorrent seem to be the only client that which happens less often compared to other clients. So there is something in uTorrent that triggers this less often (for me that is) than other clients out there. E.g.: Azureus would crash my system with only 5 torrents loading while still only doing scrap checking.

The crashes doesn't occur even when running some of the most hardware demanding games, application and benchmarks testing for many hours straight (like 10h session to begin with, 24h, 36h) but without any torrent client running ofcourse. So unlikely that it's a hardware failure. The crashes also take place randomly. uTorrent could be running for 7 hours without my machine crashing while the other times, it could be crashing 5 minutes after i just started it - the machine and torrent client.

I dont expect a solution. But if anyone out there that might have a clue on what might cause it. I would be interested to hear. If you need more detail, please ask. Thanks for reading!

broken IDE drivers, broken ATA controller, dying HDD, dying PSU, broken Windows... there's just way too much stuff that can be broken to cause something like this.

My first suggestion would be to re-install Windows and see if that helps (WITHOUT installing your motherboard drivers from a CD), it can often fix weird issues.

If you hear your HDD powering down while using it, it's more likely to be a PSU problem.

I always think spyware/adware/viruses.

Don't blindly trust any single anti-virus/spyware "solution" as able to protect you from everything.

...Not if you're running Microsoft Windows, that is!

Firon: nope, i have no problem at all when no torrent client is running. Stress test just come thru fine.

Switeck: I had though about that aswell. AFAIK, it comes out fine clean. For both spyware as virusses. Altho you can never be sure with Windows.

I turned off the 'automatic reboot no crash' setting in Windows XP. And i saw a msg about driver IRQ. I got a kernel dump file aswell. But no idea how to investigate the dump file.

Most stress tests (and hell, games) don't really test anything very well. They're too specific and not really real world situations.

Look, if it happens to you on more than one client, it's obvious you have a problem on your PC. If you got IRQL_LESS_THAN_OR_EQUAL as the message, it's a really generic issue (faulty hardware, faulty drivers, but a problem with one thing can trigger a crash in ANOTHER unrelated thing!)
