TechNiko Posted January 7, 2006 Report Posted January 7, 2006 Allow us to remove completed files that are part of a multi-file torrent. Most useful for big torrents (like 20GB, 100-files) and for people who don't have huge HDDs.When files are complete, we can set them to "Don't download" but we can't move/delete these files while the torrent is still active. If we delete these files while the torrent is inactive, uTorrent will then complain when resuming the rest of the files and ask for a re-hashing, that can take a while.I come from BitComet and was used to simply set the files to Don't Download, burn them, and delete them, without ever having to stop my torrent. Of course I made sure I had seeded them well enough before doing this.
Firon Posted January 7, 2006 Report Posted January 7, 2006 That's because those files share pieces with the other files. This is unavoidable. The reason BitComet doesn't need it is because it allows you to get incomplete pieces, which is a really bad idea.
TechNiko Posted January 7, 2006 Author Report Posted January 7, 2006 Maybe the last file may share a piece, and that's fine, but say I have 1-51 complete and 52-100 incomplete 1-50 do not share a piece with 52, only 51 does, in which case I would understand why we can't delete it.

The only reason that comes to mind is that you may not be able to share an incomplete piece, but then that's only 1 or 2 pieces out of about 10000 in a big download...
TechNiko Posted January 9, 2006 Author Report Posted January 9, 2006 Actually it seems that uTorrent already stores the "shared piece" if the previous/next file is set to skip, in a temporary file like "~uTorrentPartFile_A2D75800.dat". So I don't really understand why this feature is not yet implemented too.
