akasixcon
I am living in my college campus right now and it doesn't seem like they are forwarding ports. How do I download / upload torrents on my campus without the ports being forwarded?i talked to the timewarner cable company (which is the ISP in my campus) and they said they do not forward the ports and that I'd have to get my own router and forward it through there. From what I take it as, if I connect my computer directly to my campus internet and the ports aren't forwarded; what makes it a reason to open the ports when I have a router.can't i just use the http ports since they are open by default? If so what are they? Are there any other ports that are open by default that I could use for the torrents?
Firon
Your campus probably doesn't give you a real IP and in fact has you behind their own LAN. Easy enough to tell, just see what IP your computer has assigned.
akasixcon
Yes I agree that its obvious that my computer is behind a LAN because thats where other students in the network connect too also. However, how do I get around this LAN to get my ports forwarded? Is it possible to use a public port (http) as an open port? if so what port is this? (isn't it like 80 or something?)
