thelittlefire
Sorry I figured something was up with the Error code -2... but upon a second look, that IP doesn't match yours. Your IP I guess is 2, what is 4 on your network? Do you have any consoles or other computers? Or maybe that computer has multiple NICs?As for your software, yeah shouldn't be a problem as long as you're not using ESET smart security. ... With both of those auto-configure options enabled, it should be picking up. Are you sure the UPNP setting on your router wasn't reset recently? Remember if you auto-configure you don't need a static rule on your router, and vise versa.
biza
Everything is just fine when I go back to 1.7.7 but when I update to 1.8.1 I get no incoming connections and the tracker reports port is closed.
Greg Hazel
You could try setting net.upnp_tcp_only, that prevents uTorrent from mapping a UDP port, which on broken routers sometimes closes the TCP port.
BLJ
hi everybody. At first i thought i would be experiencing the same problem,... since in utorrent < 1.8 (only production versions) UPNP was working a lot faster. Version 1.8 in one instance took about 20, 25minutes to map the UPnP Port. Here is what my log says:--------------------[2008-08-30 14:52:15] UPnP: Could not map UPnP Port on this pass, retrying.[2008-08-30 14:52:20] UPnP: Could not map UPnP Port on this pass, retrying.[2008-08-30 14:52:23] NAT-PMP: Unable to map port with NAT-PMP.[2008-08-30 14:52:25] UPnP: Could not map UPnP Port on this pass, retrying.[2008-08-30 14:52:30] UPnP: Unable to map port 192.168.1.7:27624 with UPnP.[2008-08-30 14:55:57] UPnP: Discovered host: http://192.168.1.1:5431/dyndev/uuid:0012-17df-47d3005094a4[2008-08-30 14:55:57] UPnP: Discovered new device: "urn:schemas-upnp-org:device:WANConnectionDevice:1" http://192.168.1.1:5431/uuid:0012-17df-47d302b894a4/WANIPConnection:1[2008-08-30 14:55:58] UPnP: Mapped TCP port 27624 -> 192.168.1.7:27624[2008-08-30 14:55:58] UPnP: TCP port 27624 -> 192.168.1.7:27624 mapped successfully.[2008-08-30 14:55:58] UPnP: Mapped UDP port 27624 -> 192.168.1.7:27624[2008-08-30 14:55:58] UPnP: UDP port 27624 -> 192.168.1.7:27624 mapped successfully.[2008-08-30 14:55:58] UPnP: Getting external IP[2008-08-30 14:55:58] UPnP: Got external IP: 80.***.***.**--------------------So after all, it took 3 minutes. I wonder how the discovery of the UPnP Device happend. Does this mean the router has to broadcast it's uPNP Service? ....
vv
alus - thanks for the recommendation to set "net.upnp_tcp_only"="true".Without it router ZyWALL 5 (latest firmware) replaces 1st TCP mapping with 2nd UDP immediately, resulting that router has only one(!) port mapping - UDP. Thus, incoming connections could not be accepted at all. Before changing the option log displayed:[2008-09-01 13:18:20] UPnP(XP): TCP port 12345 -> 192.168.1.100:12345 is already mapped. Not re-mapping.[2008-09-01 13:18:21] UPnP(XP): UDP port 12345 -> 192.168.1.100:12345 is already mapped. Not re-mapping.[2008-09-01 13:18:22] UPnP: Discovered host: http://192.168.1.1:80/DeviceDescription.xml[2008-09-01 13:18:23] UPnP: Discovered new device: "ZyXEL ZyWALL 5 Internet Security Appliance" http://192.168.1.1:80/UD/act?3...After setting it "true" there is only one line (no UDP related message):[2008-09-01 13:38:46] UPnP(XP): TCP port 12345 -> 192.168.1.100:12345 is already mapped. Not re-mapping.And as result ZyWALL has TCP port mapping.I do not know who is at fault here - uTorrent 1.8.0 or ZyWALL, but it should be fixed, so I'll turn the option back to its default value - "false" (or may be I do not need it at all? please, advice)And, BTW, why there is the message "12345 is already mapped. Not re-mapping." in first two lines? I'was getting them right after uT started and there were no any mappings before. It's, at least, a bit confusing, don't you think?. Greg Hazel
We added the option because of the bug in ZyXEL routers.

vv
Thanks. What are the drawbacks of keeping "net.upnp_tcp_only"="true"?
Ultima
µTorrent won't automatically attempt to forward the port for UDP. If you don't use DHT, this shouldn't really matter anyway. You'd probably save yourself some headache by manually forwarding the ports instead :\
Greg Hazel
You won't get a UDP mapping, but without implementing it differently in uTorrent it is not possible with the ZyXEL.
vv
So, unless I forward UDP manually, there is no reason for me to keep DHT enabled?I'd prefer to have forwarding done automatically via UPnP, when I close uTorrent. In this case I do not need to go to router every time I finish with uTorrent just to stop a flood of packets coming from the Internet to my computer... Greg Hazel
DHT will function somewhat without port mapping.

Ultima
As for why the problem started occurring from 1.8 on: µTorrent 1.8.x attempts to forward both the port for both TCP and the UDP via UPnP, whereas 1.7.x only attempted to forward the port for TCP. For most users, this works fine, but in some cases (like yours), routers behave retardedly and erase previous port mappings -- hence the advanced option. If enough users complain to the router manufacturer, maybe they'll come around and fix this issue
justynnuff
"As for your software, yeah shouldn't be a problem as long as you're not using ESET smart security"I've been having these exact problems (port fowarding, AS WELL as after I start utorrent, even after I close it, I have to restart my whole system to even get back onto the internet).I was wondering why this is a problem. I can easily install nod32 just antivirus, so I prepared a couple questions that might or might not get clear answers on this forum.Should I just get rid of smart security and use vista's firewall? And what is the advantage of the new 1.8+ utorrent? Faster? Better? I'm also using a linksys wrt54gs router, so I HOPE there will be no problems with the router itself.Main question: Get rid of nod32 S.S. in favor of just the regular antivirus, or just install an older version of utorrent?I'm trying to figure out which would yield the best results (faster utorrent downloads, or just go back and have a stable, no hassle utorrent). On another note (don't know if anyone cares), it was kind of a hassle to set up my home network with nod32 S.S., so I'm thinking of just 86'ing it in favor of regular nod32.
