noahs arch
I know they're not intentionally doing this but I'm getting 6 incoming connections a second for the uTorrent port even though I've had it off for over an hour. Is there anyway I can stop this? When I did have it on I had no peers showing up on my list but I did have uploads going out.I cant play online games when this is happening plus I can see all their ips on my firewall so thats not really safe is it? :S
DreadWingKnight
What type of traffic is it?What firewall are you using?
noahs arch
I'm using zone alarm and its UDP traffic trying to connect to port:17280 which is being blocked by ZA. This is well after Ive shut down uTorrent. I checked to see if it was still running in the processes list and it wasnt.I am using an Inexq router which also has a firewall. DreadWingKnight
Then uninstall ZA temporarily and see how things perform.I have a feeling that ZA is doing stupid things with the UDP traffic (associated with DHT, it can take over a day for DHT traffic to clear up due to the way the DHT system works). noahs arch
What firewall should I replace it with?
DreadWingKnight
The one in your router. By the time hostile software gets to your computer when you're behind a router, it's too late for any software firewall to do anything to protect you. Switeck
And if your software firewall has any vulnerabilities, you may even be WORSE off than no software firewall at all. This is because your computer would normally ignore a connection on a "random" port, but the software firewall might try to react to it.
noahs arch
Thanks. I just uninstalled it and uTorrents back to being fast. Its too much of a resource hog anyway.
