Connection Speed Problems? This Newbie offers info TRY FIRST!!

Hello there. I've only just started using uTorrent and torrents as a whole ( a few days) . In the forums are loads of interesting postings on how to increase your connection speed by changing settings. Well STOP right now and don't make the same mistake as me. Everyones computer is different. A simple fact that is overlooked by every newbie (including myself only a couple of days ago).

Everything I say is just a recommendation to anyone who is newbier than me. I am regular computer user and I am not a computer or internet wizzkid. But I CAN type like a MoFo...lol....Big Jessie I hear you say...

When I started I was only downloading one thing at a time. Naturally I thought one item, faster speed. Not the case. Apparently this has something to do with seeders. The higher this number the better.

I messed about with all sorts of recommendations from the forums before I decided to download more than one thing at a time. Guess what? When I was downloading one item the connection or download speed was only 10kBps.(kiloBytes). I added another 3/4 files to my download list and had an increase to over 100kBps. OK that would be my overall download speed, and maybe I might not get the file I want downloaded quicker but at least I can still get others while I wait, right? Just face facts that some files just can't be downloaded quicker. (some people might disagree with that statement...lol)I'm happier now than what I was a few days ago.

These aren't boastful figures. I got this speed completely by accident, or maybe I am just as thick as my name suggests. If you change settings , it is common sense to right down the original settings. Don't be silly ( as i was) and think the forums will give you an instant solution. Be prepared to have a long session in front of your computer. You will be trying loads of different settings. I'm not going to recommend any settings but check mine out and try them. Who know's? Maybe they'll help but only if your ISP package is the same speed. I also have windows Xp.

I know some expert users might have something to say about what little info I offer but it is just a simple thing I overlooked and thought this may be a common occurance. It pains me to admit I was that stupid, but I have and hope it saves someone else from being so daft.

Excellent thinking. :D This is what I mean about being realistic. Some swarms are just incredibly slow, no matter what settings you use. Here's where a lil' something I call patience comes in. People have to have patience if they want to download anything at all, especially if their bandwidth is not wide enough. :)

I'm glad I made a good point:) being a newbie and that.

If people want more then they should fork out the cash for a better connection. That's just my opinion. But there are people who genuinely need help with speeds who don't know much about computers and connections etc etc The others don't need help they need just a tad of patience as you say

I've hopped into torrents with just 1 seed and downloaded at >100 KB/sec till I hit about 60% of the file...and then just STOP. At that point, EVERYONE's waiting on the seed...which is only uploading at 3 KB/sec split multiple ways to get out complete file chunks of 2 MB size before anyone has a chunk to share besides the seed.

I just throttle my upload speed on that torrent to 3-8 KB/sec and go on to another torrent. No sense in uploading really quickly for 5 mins every 2 hours if I'm going to have to wait another 2 hours anyway for the next chunk!
