Torrent will not download

I am trying to download a torrent but it never downloads...It says "Downloading" but there is absolutely nothing happening... I try different torrents of the download but nothing is happening...help

I'm having the same problem... I had a torrent downloading then upgraded to 1.8 and now the torrent has stopped. It has 2372 seeders and I have one connection and 4492 leechers of which I have no connections to.

The open office torrent has 21 seeders and I have one connection that is downloading at 4-8kB/s. It's been connected for 10 minutes.

I had this problem when 1.8 first came out but I didn't have time to fix it so I reverted back to an older version and my downloads resumed their normal speed.

I've gone through the set up guides, port forwarding, etc.

Just re-installed 1.7.5 and the stopped torrent straight away has 2 seeder connections and 3 peer connections and downloading.

The open office torrent has 4 seeder connections and downloading at 44kB/s.

This is within 1 minute of installing it. Any ideas on why 1.8 doesn't work?

Windows Firewall and AntiVir anti-virus.

I removed the uTorrent option in Windows Firewall and let 1.8 re-install itself into Windows Firewall.

Hmm, good good. Well are the peers you connect to the SAME peers ? Peer connectivity when you're already "announced" to the swarm is happenstance on something that small (fake peers or many firewalled peers). You tried the same test torrents mentioned openoffice or slackware?

I tried the direct link to slackware 10.2 in another thread, it got up to 100kB/s (my max is about 160-170kB/s as i'm on a 1.5Mb connection), so it was quick but nothing else was downloading at all, even with the slackware stopped. I used the OpenOffice link above for the comparison between the two different versions. I just left the torrent in the queue when I installed the other version over the top.

I couldn't tell you if they were the same peers... Probably not, but it's a huge difference. I now have 26 connections to seeders on the original file, when using 1.8 I could only get 1 and no data transfer.

You pay attention to the tracker status or error message for the torrent?

I looked in the general tab and it said working and had the blue downloading arrow, it seemed fine, just no data was transferring.

Curious, well it's possible you'd see something by using Logger tab > right click > Error log peer disconnect message and misc errors in both Error and Verbose... I'm thinking something is not allowing/keeping you from having a connection with peers. Are you running without extra features designed to pseudo-mask torrent traffic from your ISP? Did you double check to see that the configuration was indeed identical, with the only difference being your uT version? (It's not possible to have identical settings while running both simultaneously, but all except the port being identical would still be close enough as long as your forwarding rule was assigned correctly.

Nothing extra related to torrents is running... I have other anti-spyware software but nothing relating to torrents.

There's nothing in the logger, but that's because I re-installed it.

I just ran the utorrent.exe (1.8) and let it install over the top of my old uTorrent so all my setting would be the same. After 1.8 wouldn't do anything, I followed the speed guide instructions but it still didn't work. To revert back to the old version, I did the same thing, ran the utorrent.exe (1.7.5) and it worked normal again. Port stayed as 30101 on both versions. I'm assuming something on my computer is stopping 1.8 from working properly but have no idea what it could be.

Did you turn on logging in 1.8's logger tab the way I suggested? To see if peers which you TRY to connect to (outgoing) or peers which connect to YOU (incoming) are meeting with some error?

You said you're downloading these torrents? Or seeding them? Disconnect: Is Seed is only supposed to happen when you seed.

Edit: Turn off incoming/outgoing... It appears you can receive incoming connections fine and it may point out something which scrolls too fast... I have an inkling you've pointed out a bug in feature implementation, but can you verify the build of uT 1.8 you are running? Alt-H-A please report the #

Sorry, I had uploads going. I thought the logging window was just for the downloading torrent. I thought each torrent had it's own log.

You know what... I stopped all my seeding torrents and the download got 20 seeding peers and over 100kB/s. Why are my seeds affecting my downloads like that when they don't in 1.7.5?

[edit] I have about 100 files (they don't all seed at the same time due to uTorrent settings) seeding always, but I limit uploads to 18-20kB/s and the downloads always run fine in 1.7.5. In 1.8 as soon as the uploading starts the downloading stops or slows dramatically.

... Why are you force starting torrents? If the problem only exists when you have force started torrents, stop them. Then configure uTorrent so you can seed your "permanent seed" files as needed. Force start does not obey the queue rules. which is completely irrelevant to this task at hand UNLESS you're already hitting the connection limit.
