Nuggz
Hey guys, as the message says, as soon as I open µtorrent, my internet goes down until a restart. Torrents will still download, although my speeds have been a lot lower recently. Upload still works fine as well. I'm going to try the slackware torrent just to see what kinds of speed I can get but.. Using the 1.8.1 beta (build 12024), recently upgraded from 1.8 stable to see if it would fix the problem. Green status light, port is forwarded, DHT off, Resolve IPs off, net.max_halfopen is at 8, UPNP is off, tried the outgoing encryption on all 3 options, everything.. The only thing I have not tried yet is patching tcpip.sys. I've noticed a large decrease of speeds with the new beta(s), as well as complete internet shutdown while µtorrent is running until a restart. I'm using ESET smart security, updated. I've messed with my max connections, max upload, all that. Tried everything under http://forum.utorrent.com/viewtopic.php?id=15992.Oddly enough, I wasn't having a problem with 1.8 beta until randomly one day I got a BSOD, restarted the pc, and boom, problem starts. I have hijackthis and process explorer if I need to post those too, although I can't remember exactly how to snag the log from process explorer, as I rarely use it. All the pc stuff is below.. Any help is much appreciated!! I had the problem before 1.8 was out, here's the post : http://forum.utorrent.com/viewtopic.php?pid=325886#p325886It was fixed by getting the newest beta at the time.. I'm unsure what version that was, as that was months ago. ------------------------------------------------------------------------------Okay so I just tried the slackware torrent, and it ran great, between 750k and 1M the whole time. My upload was set on 20 first, then 25, and it was only going 5 - 10, i'm guessing because they're dedicated servers they're hosted on.. But, my internet actually was working for a few minutes while the torrent was downloading at full speed, so I decided to start a few seeds I had paused to get the upload up to the limit I had set, and when I started the seeds, my internet went out. So I paused them again, and had only the slackware torrent running, and my internet came back again for a few minutes, only to go out one last time while only that torrent was running. I snagged the process explorer list as well, hope it helps (changed my net.max_halfopen to 4 now as well)Antec 900 case with an Antec TruePower Quattro 850watt power supplyAsus Maximus Formula motherboard with an Intel Q6600 Core 2 Quad with a Zalman 9700 cooler2x2gb G.Skill DDR2 1066 dual channel RAMSapphire Radeon HD 3870 512 MB GDDR4Seagate Barracuda 1TB SATA internalMaxtor 300gb usb externalWD 500gb usb externalVista Ultimate 64-bit with Service Pack 1Motorola SB5120 cable modem on comcastLinksys SRX200 Router:::.. testmy.net test results ..:::Download Connection is:: 11327 Kbps about 11.33 Mbps (tested with 12288 kB)Download Speed is:: 1383 kB/sUpload Connection is:: 1092 Kbps about 1.1 Mbps (tested with 2992 kB)Upload Speed is:: 133 kB/sTested From:: http://testmy.net (Main)Test Time:: 2008/09/02 - Switeck
Did you try lowering connections and disabling DHT, LPD, UPnP, and Resolve IPs?
Nuggz
Yes I put max connections at multiple values in between 50 and 1500 (usually keep it at 1500 and runs fine), and dht, upnp, lpd, and resolve ips are disabled..

Nuggz
Well, I thought I had it there, because when I checked my smart security settings, they were on auto mode instead of interactive for some reason.. Maybe an update or something, not sure. Unfortunately that didn't fix the issue with me still.. Just got done restarting the computer. Thank you for that response though, I'm sure that was causing issues too So as of right now I have:Max UL at 10Max conn. at 100Conn peers per torrent at 10UL slots at 3DHT, UPNP, LPD, Resolve ips disabledSmart Security configurednet max halfopen at 2µtorrent open and paused, about to try it again..Update: As of now, I'm downloading the slackware again, with the other torrents downloading as well, with those settings above, and it's going about 500 - 800.. Internet working too.. Should I try increasing the values slowly?Update2: So I've come to the conclusion that no matter what my max conns are and conns per torrent, and no matter what speed I'm downloading or uploading at (within my limits), my internet chooses when it wants to work and when it doesn't. I can start IE 10 times over a 1m period, and it'll work 1 or two times out of those, and it'll work for different periods of time.. Even now I'm downloading at around 800, but it will go back out at any moment.. Weird.

Nuggz
Honestly I've tried everything except patching tcpip.sys and doing the glasnost test for traffic but comcast is already on the list, so it explains why I never could seed for anything. Currently running ~200k and internet is working fine with a couple of tweaked settings..
Switeck
You might want to actually increase per-torrent connection max.uTorrent REALLY needs a minimum connections per torrent limit.
Firon
Have you disabled the web access protection in ESET?
Nuggz
I had not disabled web access protection in eset, which I just did, and my settings are on:1500 max connections50 connections per torrentI've always had it on this, after I messed with the settings for a while a long time ago, and found this number to be suitable.. It's been on those settings since last night. Internet's still off and on though oddly enough
Switeck
Your router is probably not rated for 1500 connections at once. It'd probably crash/reset if you tried. If you only have a few torrents or torrents with few peers/seeds, you'd never reach that max...but even if uTorrent gets over 150 connections you may have problems.Do you have a problem when your computer is directly connected to your router.(Better use Windows Firewall while doing that...) Nuggz
Haven't actually tried that yet, but if it'll help pinpoint the problem, I'll definitely do it. I let it run under 250 max conns for a while, then 500, then 1000.. Doesn't seem to change anything at all really.. The lower connections I put, the lower my speeds are, but that's about all I noticed. I'll try directly connecting the modem here in just a few and post back after I've done it ThanksWell, I've got my modem connected directly now, and it's still doing the same thing.. Probably just coincidence, but my downloads have actually decreased in speed with the same settings as I had when the router was connected too
Switeck
Did you ever shut this down?:SearchIndexer.exe You may need to limit connections to UNDER 100. Trying 250, 500, whatever won't show any difference if the disaster occurs around 100. Was internet access "killed" for other computers on your network or ALL LAN functions? This gives us a clue as to whether your modem or router is dying. Nuggz
I haven't shut down the search indexer yet, which I'll try, and I'll also try limiting the connections to see if that'll make a difference.. If I drop the max conns to under 100, what would you recommend I put the max connections per torrent at? I've got it on 65 atm, but It would only make sense to lower it if I lowered the other one right ?
Switeck
If you only run 1 busy torrent at a time it won't matter much. The other torrents combined probably won't get more than 35 connections anyway. If not, lower per-torrent connection max to 30...which seems a good balance in low number for high download speed.
