HELP? Speed & connection issues -Is it weird or is there a solution?

- Have DSL... 860k dl/ 160 up (note: average speeds are listed) - something (maybe with the settings?) keeps crashing my internet

- OS Vista 64-bit, Intel core duo, UT 1.7, 1.8 and 1.8.1beta tried, directly connected to modem, modem firewall is off, connection allowed in comp firewall

- Running UT virtually stops all connections

- Speedtest averages with UT off= 760k dl, 140up, web browsing just fine... turn on UT, drops to 460-640k dl, only 5-10 up (yes, five to ten) and web browsing so slow it nearly stops, often disconnects internet completely needing to reboot comp and modem

- UT Typical dl TOTAL won't pass 13k, ul stays near 10k - sometimes will start with high numbers like 60k dl, then crashes within seconds

- Port is forwarded and tested good, green checkmark too

- Glasnost tested all green - no indications of ISP limits - also asked ISP tech support in general if they limit any software access to internet or have software conflicts with no mention of specific programs, they said no

- Tried setting connection type to 768k, 640k, 512k at default settings- no changes

- Tried progressively changing max global connections from default at each mentioned connection type to as low as 50 - no changes (around 150, seems to get worse)

- Tried each encryption, not, and forced - no change

- Tried progressively changing ul rate from default at each mentioned connection type way down to 10 - no change

- Tried installing IPv6/Teredo, didn't do anything - didn't even see it install

- Tried updating UT from 1.7 to 1.8 to 1.8.1beta - no change, though 1.7 was only used with previous modem at same location and had worse results (ISP replaced previous model)

-Tried disabaling DHT - no change

- net.max_halfopen is already at 8

- Tried disabaling UPnP and NAT-PMP - no changes

- peer.resolve_country already set to false

- Availability of files 5 to 15

- peer.lazy_bitfield already set to true

- Tried limit local peer bandwith - no change

- BitTorrent exactly the same

I've tried so many different setting combinations with no changes -

if you can see what my settings need to be and that's all it is, please be complete to make sure i don't miss anyting.

If it's something else, i would really really appreciate it to know what..

uTorrent's Speed Guide settings are based on your max UPLOAD!

You've been trying the wrong settings.

Try the 2nd link in my signature for alternate settings.

Lower net.max_halfopen to 1.

Disable DHT, LPD, UPnP, NAT-PMP, AND Resolve IPs (right-click in peers window) ALL at once.

Also, what hostile software is on your computer as well as which broken model router/modem do you have?

- Tried the alternate settings for 768k then 700k together with other settings you mentioned - no change

- yep, i reviewed Ultima's guide - that's where many of the stats came from listed in orig post

Could it be a vista 64bit imcompability? or still thinking settings?

Edit: additional note: using patch cord instead of wireless on the modem for troubleshooting purposes at this time. Nothing changes either way, just thought it would be better for troubleshooting.

How do you reset the connection... does it come up again without resetting the computer?

Do you have a router as well? Have you lowered the halfopen below 8?

The UDP error ... I don't know. Did you set either net.bind_ip or net.outgoing_ip ?

The halfopen error is only informative, and lets you know that windows and uTorrent disagree.

700 kilobits/second upload settings is more than 4 TIMES too fast for your connection!

You should be using 160 kilobits/second OR LOWER upload-based settings in uTorrent.

uTorrent v1.8.1 beta (and maybe v1.8) includes an advanced feature to only map TCP when using UPnP...but you shouldn't be using UPnP in uTorrent if you manually port forwarded uTorrent's listening port.

-Halfopen set to 1 - it looks like that error is saying even 1 is too much?

-Did not set net_bind_ip or net_outgoing_ip - did i miss that it was supposed to be changed?

-modem beind used is the mentioned Actiontec (ISP provided modem w/wireless feature), there is no additional gateway - using lan port for improved troubleshooting, not using wireless feature

-tried speed settings to 128 default settings, dl stopped at <1k TOTAL, ul 10k

-changed to current: Max global ul is 65

-max global dl is 0

- max global # connect is 120

- max # connect peer/torrent is 45

-# of ul slots/torrent is 5

still no changes - web brows is fine without UT, speed tests fine without UT at avg. 740k dl, 140 ul - as soon as UT is turned on, web brows slows nearly stops and many times get error not connected to internet, speedtest dl 400-600k, ul crashed to only 5-10k

there are a whole lot more of those halfopen errors in the log this morning...

If the other error says windows and ut disagree, does that indicate this os, vista 64-bit, not compatible with ut? if so, is there a more compatible alternative?

The latest versions of uTorrent v1.8 and v1.8.1 beta have serious issues with half open connections.

I'm hoping there will be a fix for that in less than 2 weeks...so try the next v1.8.1 beta.

Not really...due to vulnerabilities and other reasons it is no longer available for download at uTorrent.

You can try somewhere else to get it if you have to have it...but be certain that the source you get it from is reliable!

I've heard the half open issue is a windows bug in the latest XP3 and Vista updates.

Hopefully, Microsoft will correct it in a timely manner.

We don't support 1.7.x at all.

High halfopen limits set in uT cause major problems, especially when microsoft decides to re-patch.

Don't use an old version. Lower your half open

Edit: Whoops, cached version of the thread. Your logfile shows you use Trend Micro, that you have lots of OEM provided services running, and nothing injected into uTorrent.exe. So ...
