Opening containing folders and directories

I have just downloaded something, gone to open it by "open containing folder" bit nothing happens..................I have then gone to preferences -directories...and all these are blank.

I am not sure what default directories to download to so I have created some and reloaded the file but I still can not open it.

I need some help on this please.

I want to set everything to default.

This is a new problem and it was working ok up to the other day.

I am always playing around with my computer so it could be one of many things.

Help would be great please.

Make sure you've actually downloaded some data. And try stopping the torrent if you have.

Yes I have and it comes up with an error message after about 5 secs of download.........."access in denied"

This is on a file that I have downloaded in the past?

The file is in a location your Windows user account is allowed to access, right?

a) get HijackThis from trendsecure.com, run it, view the log, and post the contents here

get Process Explorer from sysinternals.com, run it, Ctrl+D (to show the lower DLL pane), select the µTorrent process from the list, Ctrl+S (and save the list somewhere you'll find easily -- like the Desktop), then post the contents of the saved process list in the .txt file here

Nero is causing problems. Exclude the download directories from indexing, disable its indexer, or uninstall the indexer entirely. How or whether any of those can be accomplished, I don't know for sure, as I don't use Nero.

Thanks if I uninstalled nero and did a fresh install on Utorrent do you think that would help?

It should, yes. Do note that I've seen some posts indicating that it may be possible to opt out of the indexing component during the Nero install. Again, I can't confirm that, but it's worth a try if you decide to uninstall Nero (and subsequently, reinstall).

Disabling Nero Scout alone should be enough.

Thanks nero scout is corrupted so will take of Nero and reload it later. when i have done that what download directories should I use for Utorrent at the moment they point to.

New downloads : C:\Documents and Settings\Bernard\My Documents\My Received Files

Move completed downloads: C:\Documents and Settings\Bernard\My Documents\Downloads

The rest is blank is this right or not ?

It's up to you where you wanna save stuff. It doesn't really matter, though I personally think it's best not to save anything to Documents and Settings, ever.
