DreadWingKnight
A freeze is NOT a crash.Try enabling the last 2 options in preferences - advanced - disk cache

Firon
One of your drivers is likely broken. If you use wireless, switch to wired.

thelittlefire
How long after a freeze have you waited to see if it fixes itself? Before the freeze, open Task Manager... check to see if 1) RAM usage or 2) CPU usage increase prior to the freeze.

Firon
Clearly your computer has some nasty (hardware) issue if it's completely locking up. Around the time of the freezes, do you see anything in the Event Viewer?Post a HijackThis log.
b6gm6n
Hi..Just to add i have this problem also and it's not related to utorrent, because i switched to vuze and its the same, using Vista32 i can run either utorrent or vuze all day if i wish... BUT if i start to download anything it'll lock my machine completely. This is unusual, i have read up on this issue and tried to follow solutions, disabling windows cache in UT etc, i reduced my download speed, still the same, i have two drives, downloading to either or does the same thing, i have disabled and enabled services and processes, same crash... soon as a download starts coming in you have around 3 mins, possibly more then you can't do a thing... only power off.I have installed Hijack-This, log below :Logfile of HijackThis v1.99.1Scan saved at 22:17:06, on 10/09/2008Platform: Unknown Windows (WinNT 6.00.1905 SP1)MSIE: Internet Explorer v8.00 (8.00.6001.17184)Running processes:C:\Windows\system32\taskeng.exeC:\Windows\system32\Dwm.exeC:\Windows\Explorer.EXEC:\Windows\ehome\ehtray.exeC:\Program Files\Windows Media Player\wmpnscfg.exeC:\Windows\system32\wbem\unsecapp.exeC:\Windows\ehome\ehmsas.exeC:\Program Files\Mozilla Firefox\firefox.exeC:\Program Files\Hijackthis\HijackThis.exeR1 - Firon
So yours just hard locks too, no BSOD? First thing I'd do is look for BIOS and driver updates.

b6gm6n
I got mine working also... well i had to re-install vista ( i was going to do that anyways ) and whatever it was vanished, I didn't install UT, but Vuze... ( did the same lock ups as before ) and Vuze works as it should, downloads no problem, so i think the UT problem would be obviously fixed to, although i haven't tried yet, but currently I'm downloading an 18-gig rom dump for MAME and it's working fine...The only thing i could think of which was the problem is either A: my Vista32 (premium SP1) was corrupted in some way, I'd possibly downloaded an update which caused a problem, but my vista32 wasn't a pure clean install, it was from Dell and I'd done another install of windows since i had my machine, so it could be that...I'm now using Vista32 Ultimate SP1Might of been my Java runtime version or just faulty, when i installed Vuze i had to also install Java (did so manually)Could of been my Nvidia driver, my 8800GTX needs to be strapped down with RivaTuner otherwise you play a DVD or a game it'll last about 1 minute before a complete system lock, i set my clocks in Riva and it makes it stable and all works ok, but again Vuze was working without the need of anything else.I noticed before on my SATA drives i had set policies to 'enable advanced performance' on both drives i have, right now these options are unchecked and it seems fine, I'll enable them later on to see if there's a change. - "Enable write caching" is checked and working on both my drives.I could of had a virus, or some nasty spyware, i didn't have a virus program as such and any checks i made with NOD seemed fine, search indexing was all off by the way.Firewall was on, all exceptions were in place and working.Any services or processes i disabled before seemed to have no effect on the crash, soon as you started downloading it would fail within minutes, my Ethernet card drivers were fine, general system health was good all round, but this really didn't make sense, anyways it's working for me, i hope you don't have to re-install Vista to make it all work
